Ok, just rebuilding my AR.( went from a 20 inch heavy barrel to a 14,5) Now its jamming really alot. from what i could see, it seems to be a timing problem. Seems like it does'nt have time to cycle properly. Was wondering what could be done to rectify the situation. Thanks.

Ask your self this first
-did I put the gas tube pin in?
-is the barrel nut miss alined
-Are my gas rings worn out
-is my disconector spring a heavy duty one "red" which is to be used when using a short buffer.

If I understand your problem correctly, it appears that you have a failure to extract. When that happens, the bolt/carrier will pick up the next cartridge and it'll jam on the one still in the chamber. This is not un-common for short barreled AR's. When you rebarreled, did you also put a new buffer and buffer spring in? The extractor spring may need to be replaced with a carbine type to make it stiffer and grip the case head better. You are on the right track when you mentioned timing. The shorter gas tube means that chamber pressure is still fairly high when the impulse tries to move the bolt carrier back to extract the empty case. That's why you need the stiffer buffer spring and heavier extractor spring to hold onto the case. Also, a heavier bolt carrier helps to slow down the extraction cycle somewhat, i.e. a full circle type vs the Colt C-type. Good luck!

thanks for the info, I took it out again yesterday with some reloaded ammo and its worked flawlessly. was using heavy bullets at low velocity. gonna keep triyng it just to see how much it helps.
