.40 plated bullets - diameter tolerances?

I just bought 1000 plated 155gr .40 bullets and noticed that they didn't look so good quality-wise.

I took a vernier to them and noted that ALL of them so far measure a runout on the bore contact surface of at least .0015" - from .3995 or .4000"smallest to .4015"largest diameter on each bullet.

Will this cause any problems in my Sig?
 
In my experience, bullets are cast .003 smaller then bore size, and the plating is supposed to make up the difference. So you can see how you would get that kind of inconsistant dia. if the plating is not consistant. It may not be possible to get the plating as consistant as you like,I'm not sure of that.
 
But it's out of round. Is that a problem? What size is the bore 'exactly' ? Will there be any pressure problems?

I haven't measured other pistol bullets so I'm not sure where I stand. They just looked crappy so I measured them.
 
It's hard to say whether they were out of round before plating or not, all you can do is try them, the normal dia. of a 9mm bullet is .355/.356 so I'm sure yours will be safe. At close handgun distances, I doubt you will see a dif. in accuracy, if it were a rifle and you were trying to shoot small groups at 100 or beyond, it probably would make a dif.
 
Try them and see if you can detect any difference. The last batch of 9mm bullets I got are plated, haven't put a micrometer on them, but they shoot OK.
 
It has been extremely difficult for me to find .40 bullets around here, esp. plated. I pretty much have to try these, if they won't damage my gun.
 
Plated bullets are just cast bullet with very thin copper plating on them. The barrel will sort out any out of roundness.
"....0015"..." That is 1 and a half thousandths of an inch. Forget it.
 
I bet I can guess who's bullets you got.

They won't cause any problems and generally shoot OK. The lead is soft enough that they won't damage anything. I use them for practice.
 
What brand of bullet are you using?
Are you using a really tight match barrel? I you are using a stock barrel, you should be good to go. With that small variance/tolerance, I will consider that acceptable.

In case you are using the Excel bullets, I have used over 35K of them for practice rounds in the past 2-yrs and still using them until now with no problem.

Try loading some practice rounds or major rounds within the loading data specification, then shoot a few of them and check for pressure signs by looking the headstamp of your brass. If you see pressure sign, then you decide if you will continue using them or not.
