9.3 x 62 Who's familiar with them?

It has taken a number of years to finally getting around to getting one, but am getting a quality rifle in left hand. The added bonus for me is a bit of a family connection to the current trend in increased interestin this cartridge!

History and connection makes everything more meaningful... cool story, good for you... I am sure you will enjoy carrying that rifle.

What is particularly intriguing about the 9.3X62 came from Finn Aagaard who wrote that observations of experienced hunters support the idea that no difference in the reaction of (African) game to being hit with either the 9.3X62 or the .375 H&H can be discerned. Keeping in mind the velocity advantage of the .375 H&H, suggests that the 9.3's bullet weight and construction is particularly well suited for the 2400 fps impact velocities typical of this cartridge. One must also keep in mind that this was in the years before the availability of premium bullets as we understand that term today. Suffice to say a 286 gr round nose bullet, with a soft lead core, and a thick (enough) jacket is a dependable killer, when coupled with modest velocities on game up to 2000 pounds.

the late Don Heath came with the same conclusions with more modern bullets.

I have a Verney-Carron impact plus takedown rifle that I purchased from Trade Ex. It is also equipped with a QD scope mount and currently wears a Kahles 2-7X. What a nice, light, powerful, accurate and handy rifle! It displays a nice but odd combination of hitting hard on game but not very hard on the shoulder. I've only shot one elk with it so far, but it's quickly becoming a favourite. I'm in the process of finding a take down case for international travel. Taken down it's small enough to fit in a regular dimension suitcase, and with standard 286 gr. loads it is powerful enough for almost anything. I'm also experimenting with the Lapua non-lead 220 gr. Naturalis bullets. 2700 fps really flattens out the old round and should add some versatility.

It's a really capable chambering. I only shoot factory and my FN Commercial really likes Norma Oryx 285 gr.

Bought a used CZ550 in 9.3x62 from Tradeex, it has been great fun, wonderful rifle and cartridge. Recoil is no issue. I have been experimenting with different reloadings and it seems very accurate with them all. Just trying to bump the speed up to 2400+fps with 286 grain partitions and Big Game powder which I've heard provides both velocity and accuracy to this round. I will see next time out when I chrony the round.

Which ones remained???

I currently have a 7x57 (275Rigby) and a 300H&H. Getting older = shooting small calibers.

I'd like to have a 9.3 for a moose gun, but in reality that 300H&H will kill any moose I need it to along with three or four other rifles I already have esp in this neck of the woods without any scary bears.
