It is removable, don't worry...LOL

Plastic is only what was originaly bakelite. Entire thing is made out of ZAMAK and critical parts are steel.

But the historically accurate battlefield V has loads of German and British medics roaming the map with reflex/nydar sights on their stens and mp40's.

Would EA Games really steer me wrong?

Not to mention the wonderfully historically accurate movie "Operation Dunkirk" which featured MP40's with picatinny rails (not to mention depicting the *ahem* earliest known use of the U.S. M1 Thompson, the M38 Willys Jeep, and a whole bunch of other post-1940 arms and equipment...)

Just got mine, love it. Runs great. But definately tough to get a good sight picture. In person the extra barrel length doesn't look near so bad as it does in the pictures. Here is a pic of it getting introduced to the family.
