Building my own barrel.....legality?

I don’t think a barrel is a barrel until it is chambered.... but I could be wrong there. Have at her and have fun. You can also build restricted and non restricted firearms as long as the restricted is registered before completion, and the NR meets every spec for a NR firearm.

OP do you have the tools for swapping barrels on a rifle you currently own? It would be perfectly legal to make an 8" centrefire rifle barrel, and as long as you're putting it onto a rifle that is not semi automatic, and the overall length remains above the legal limit then there would be no need to contact the CFO about anything.

No but realistically I could make them. Maybe I should do that....could do like a 9x19 bolt action sbr hahahaha

To my eyes, that theoretical revolver barrel isn't a barrel until it is threaded to fit on the receiver, or, in the case of any of the smaller semi-autos, provided with a means to otherwise fit it in place so as to be used.

Oh, the joys of having people write laws about things they really don't understand all that much about!

Yes you can legally make barrels in canada as a hobby .As for finished barrel length that is an end user issue ,and not a concern of the barrel maker .Button rifling machine is usually geared to to push/pull a determined blank length ,Bevans was 27 1/2 inch to make full use of the barrel stock with little waste(barrel steel is different from regular steel)

As for the legal issues ,as I said before that is little concern as the blanks were 27 1/2 and what the end user does is of little concern to what they do with the raw blank

hmmm

I would need to do some looking but there was an article a few years back where the author was talking about barrel making and long range accuracy. They had access to a large empty warehouse where they set up their range in order to eliminate wind etc... In the end they took a length of rebar and bore and rifled it installed I on a receiver and shot it just to prove that they could make a precision barrel out of anything.
