FutureWeapons - LWRC Rifles

So whats the story on these puppies? What makes them any better than the H&K 416? They had the 416 on future weapons before...so this has to be better if its going to be on the show AFTER...right?

For starters they are available to civilians to own, the LW rifles seem to be the best of the piston AR's available. Larry Vickers has been running there "SRT" model and highly recommends them from the ones that are available commercialy. His 1st choice would be the HK 416, since he played one of the key roles in the development of the HK416. But as Larry said, " HK couldnt market free ### " . :)

Here is a direct quote from Mr Larry Vickers from another well known site .......

Gents

I heard my name was mentioned here alot and I want to weigh in on this topic;

1) I am still a consultant for HK

2)I have 2 HK416 uppers (10 & 14.5 inch) - not complete weapons - yet

3)I have an LWRC SRT gun that I have been using some lately that runs like a champ; it would be my first choice in a piston AR of what is currently available since the HK416 is not

4) A Colt 6920 is a very good gun ( I used one for a long time while instructing) and is just fine for most civilian and LE users - just keep it lubed

5) I recommend a piston AR for the following;

a) barrel length less than 14.5 inches
b) extensive full auto fire
c) wide variety of ammo being used
d) suppressed use

6) I hope the HK416 & 417 will be available to civilians and individual LE officers someday - I have campaigned tirelessly for this since the 416 was introduced

7) The 416 would be my first choice in a 5.56mm assault rifle if given the option

8) I have seen alot of ammo shot out of a 416 (probably more than anyone in the USA) - and in my experience it is MORE accurate than a DI AR - I have seen a 10 inch 416 shoot minute of angle from a machine rest at the factory after being fired 12,000 rds during a lot acceptance test - I, like others who witnessed it, would never have believed it is I had not seen it myself

9) The spec ops users of the 416 I train and know love the gun except for the weight (it has a fairly heavy barrel under that rail system) - HK is offering a lighter profile barrel as an option now

Hope this clears some things up

Cheers

Larry Vickers

Future Weapons on the Discovery Channel

During the next episode of FUTURE WEAPONS, chug a beer whenever Richard Machowicz mentions that he was a NAVY SEAL. It's a good time.:cheers:

Eh... I've always been skeptical about anything shown on Futureweapons.

The tests they put the Heckler & Koch 416 didn't look so vigorous. When they fired it 'full of sand' when they 'buried' it (for about four seconds) the bolt was closed and the magazine was fully inserted. When they fired it 'full of water' the water looked as clean and clear as bottled water (something I doubt you'd see on the battlefield) and again the bolt was closed. Then they showed shots of them shooting it. And then they showed cool shots of soldiers advancing with it while playing cool-sounding progressive rock music in the background for the rest with some guy with a cool announcer voice speaking over it. That hardly sounds like a true test of the rifle's capabilities, more like some lame TV show.

Call me a skeptic, but that's what I am.

Dave, Future Weapons is a television show designed to entertain. It is therefore geared to the lowest common denominator. The average human being is dumber than a sack of hammers.

My fondest memory of Future Weapons was watching it with a group of combat engineers. Luckily enough the show was focusing on combat engineering type stuff. A riot damn near broke out after some of the stuff he said.

The host doesnt know all that much about guns.....I remember an episode where they were testing a system designed to detect the direction a snipers bullet came from....he held up a .308 win ( 7.62x51)and explained how this was the powerful 308 round fired by an ak47.My girlfriend new this was wrong! You'd think a Navy Seal would know the difference!

You too can host Future weapons!:

" This is the ______, It fires _____ at a rate of _____. I wouldn't want to cross its path!"

Don't forget to mention you're a SEAL!;)

Why would a weapon be carried with the bolt open and magazine out in combat?? The tests are conducted under simulated conditions as the weapon would be used in combat. Every manufacturer sand/water tests their weapons like this as that is the condition they are meant to be carried in. As for water it doesn't matter if it's clean or not the idea is for the water to fill in the usually empty spaces of the weapon and to displace some of the lube used. As for the flashy production well that as they say is hollywood.

Well, I guess you're right about that, although I figured, well, maybe if the soldier is reloading while prone and in a windy, dusty desert that might be one scenario that might be a problem.

Still... I dunno... Hollywood might be Hollywood and it might be for the lowest possible denominator but they should at least get their facts straight about the 'AK round.'

I was told by someone who knows one of the producers that the show was very popular but got "ASKED" to cancel.Apparently they didn't get official permission to show some of the things they did.
