Hi all;

Going to purchase my first 308 precision rifle (entry level). I am landing my eyes on the Savage M10 BSA-k in the 308 caliber. Anyone had any experiences with the rifle? Please, any info would be much appreciated.

Cheers~!

As an entry level rifle that will do fine.

Looks heavy.

Do yourself a favor and buy a decent scope. And read a lot to learn.

I would suggest getting it in 223 instead. Doesn't give anything up to the 308 inside 400yds, and cheaper factory ammo/reloading components means you can shoot more.

I'm going to suggest the savage model 10 tr from cabelas only Have one in 6.5 comes in the accu stock will produce 1/2 to 1/4 moa groups great bang for the buck needs a cheak riser tho lol

I bought both the 223 and 308 this year. The 223 is going to get more use for those reasons. Had I bought the 223 first, the 308 would probably still be in a box.

Yeah, bought my Mossberg MVP in 556/223 18months ago, and has been fun to play with my reload on it, a tac driver with my load.....Looking to expand my long range shooting into a bigger caliber this time...:D hopefully I will enjoy the rifle :D

THanks all for the input~!

Thanks for the info, it landed around the same price with my local store when adding the shipping cost in...:D I am getting it this weekend for sure :D.

Cheers~!

Nice! Hope you save your brass!?! If you are not reloading yet, retreaving your empty casings is step 1 and a great way to motivate yourself. It is fun for the most part and you get to learn a different dimension about precision shooting. You picked a good round because the .308 along with the 30-06 is very forgiving, super flexable, readily available and are the most popular among novest reloaders. Go into any gun store that sells reloading supplies and although the might not have dies of bullets for a .311 or .223, they will always have them for .308. Again, good choice in rifle and good luck.

I am a reloader for 3 years, bought the neck sizing and fl die set already, have Varget in the stock, just need to buy some good bullets to go with them. I will buy couple boxes of different brands' 165-178gr cartridges first to fire form the brass, then start the reloading journey on this caliber:D. Thanks!

I second the Savage 10 TR as an entry level target rifle. I also agree that the stock needs a cheek riser. I've filled the buttstock with BB's and mounted a Sightron 8-32x56 scope on a 20 MOA rail. It is eminently shootable with the extra weight (though too heavy for much of any thing beyond the bench or the belly - I'm a bit frail) and easily the most accurate rifle I own. Shooting 168 AMAX over Varget it will put 5 rounds into an inch, if, as everyone says, I'm having a good day.
