Looking for ideas on what people have done to red dot or optic up their FX9's. I think these little carbines are very cool looking, function very reliably and are high on the fun factor. I have a BSA "tube" red dot and BUIS on mine right now and the red dot is just ugly. A large tube on this slender machine just looks so out of place.

Links to products and retailers in Canada welcome. I know there is an FX9 thread out there and I've chatted on it regarding reloading. There were 1 or 2 pics with decent looking 'dots' on em, but I can't make out the make/model.

I don't want to break the bank. But I don't want el cheapo either. My LGS had something by vortex but they have no stock! Oh the 1st world horror!! :)

You can't go wrong with a Holosun! They are packed with great features and are actually affordable!!! Go to Holosun.ca and check out the ones you can get in Canada. They sell them, and are great to buy from, but are priced $5 more than retailers. The reason why I like to just order from them is that they have it all in stock and you don't have to search around for a retailer with what you want in stock. Really frustrating sometimes.

I have this on a Derya Mk 12, 12 Ga. semi auto shotgun and it is so good!!! Holding up really well even with that recoil. slender enough to use both eyes open and not have a large blindspot in your field of view. The sight riser that comes with it, as seen in the picture, is the perfect height for the MK12, which is a flat-top AR 15 looking shotgun, so it should also be the perfect height on the FX9. I'm going to switch it over this weekend and try it out on my FX9. SFRC has them in stock here:

Oh, and SFRC could anounce any minute now that they are having a St. Patrick's Day sale! So keep your eyes peeled for that over the next day or so!!! They are usually around 12-13% off of everything except Vortex and BCL 102's.

Di Optical, incredible quality for the price. The RV1 has 30,000 battery life with AA battery. I'm now looking at purchasing the new sp1. Di optical is made in South Korea, they are also one of the worlds largest military optic manufacturers.

Ah yes, gun p*rn! Really digging those RMRs - the holosun looks great but i don't think it's quite high enough to co-witness with my BUIS - and DI - Now I have something to research. Cheers, thanks CGNers.

Theres a decent acog fake on amazon. I call it the facog. Worked really well on my jrc. Fixed 4 power. Head shots at 100m all day long.

Depending on the holosun model you get if you want cowitness I'm sure there are picatinny risers to suit that purpose. Haven't tried Holosun yet so can't comment on them.

Why do you need it to co-witness. They're back-up sights not clutter up your dot sight picture sights. If you have a decent quality dot sight BUIS are pointless unless you really like shooting with irons.
What if the battery goes dead? Change it.
What if my optic goes down? Send it in for warranty, no one is shooting back at you so no life lost.

If you're thought pattern is focused on SHTF or WROL zombie apocalypse preparation then you should definitely not be looking at anything under $400 for a dot sight and I would say an Aimpoint PRO would be the cheapest sight I would buy. If you want magnification then I would keep the budget over $600. A Bushnell anything or Vortex anything is not going to be my choice of optic if I ever think my life may rely on it some day.

On topic, my FX-9 is in the mail (should be here Monday or Tuesday) and I think I'll be stealing my Aimpoint T-1 (and magnifier) from my 9mm AR. Might break the bank for some but there's not many better choices for a rifle that will only be used inside 200 yards (more likely never past 100 yards).
Battery lasts for a couple years even if left on all the time. They're built like a tank, I watched a video of them torture testing one and even after dropping it out of a helicopter, running it over with a truck and generally treating it as poorly as possible it was still working.
It all depends on your eyes and intended use though. Some guys who suffer from astigmatism have a hard time with dot sights. I'm one of them and the dot on cheap sights kinda stretches out into an oval when I look through them, this still happens on the expensive ones but I don't find it as bad. I have the Aimpoint T-1 and a Bushnell whatever -25 they are called and even though they look similar on the outside the Bushnell ended up on my 22LR dedicated AR upper, it's definitely a POS compared to the Aimpoint.
Also depends on what you want to do with it. If you want to do accuracy testing off a bench at 50 or 100 yards you probably want some magnification like a 1-4x or 1-6x but if it's about light weight, mobility, and reliability at CQB type ranges then a high quality dot sight can't be beat.

Search the EE before buying, I've bought some very nice glass for some very good prices, you just have to be patient and check back regularly until the right deal pops up then pounce on it before someone beats you to it. The good deals go fast, the guys asking $10 less than retail end up sitting on them.

HAHA! CR5 - I do take into consideration disaster preparation but not to the "zombie" level. I certainly would be a boring episode of 'doomsday preppers'. "Ya, I'm prepared, I'm plot #7642 at Cadaver Cemetery. Why you all putting this on TV? Am I gonna be on TV? Wait, let me comb my beard...."

Lots of great info folks thanks. I guess co-witness isn't super important if the optic has quick detach on it. I put a bsa on it but, yup, left it on and the battery was dead when I got to the club. So off it came and irons came up. FX9's sure are great shooters. I loaded up a batch of 115 grain JRN over 4.2 grains of titegroup and she ate em like they was nuthin. Gun shoots nice and straight its a welcome addition to range days for sure.

I was very happy with the sites I used however. The whole point of this is to have a little fun without breaking the bank. It suits that role.

FX-9 with a DI Optical RV 2 on it.

Looks awesome. I'm really liking the fx9. I might pick one up. What's is the weight like?

Light, I haven't weighed it yet but it's nice and light, it's also very slim and I like how they skeletonized the forend under the rail as well.

The only thing I found a little weird was how sloppy the front take down pin is. When you hinge open the rifle on the front pin there is a lot of play, the weird thing though is that once you close it and push the rear pin through it's quite solid with very little upper/lower movement.

I also like the bolt catch paddle, a little too easy to close the bolt if you want it locked open and you're playing around with it or lay it on the left side but for the old insert mag and slap the side maneuver it works very well.

Nice pics ChillyRabbit. DI looks about right for it, nice choice.

I have irons and small bit of pic rail on the bottom front for a quick detach stubby vertical hand grip. I really need to get low to get a view on the sites so I am going to get something like a strikefire II with the built in riser. I would really like to see a shorter barrel on it.

I digress. This little darlin is under 7lbs for sure.

Holosun hs503r/he503r aka aimpoint T1/T2 killer.. can’t beat this red dot buck for bang!! I have it on my fx9 and love it !
