Glock 19 magwells, OEM 10 round mags, and back straps.

I've got a Gen 4 Canadian Edition G19 and while I like the pistol, I just can't get used to the way my pinky hangs off the bottom of the grip. I've been researching (the web and here) about magwells as I'm thinking that a low profile one will give me that little extra that I want.

Problems;
- most don't allow the use of the medium back strap (there are some possible work arounds and in the end, I myself can work around that)
- most don't allow the use of OEM 10 round mags (they won't lock in)

Is anyone running a low profile magwell with OEM 10 rounders and if so, which magwell are you running.

I've been looking at the Magpul, Agency Arms, and GlockStore offerings primarily but none seem to work with my mags, and the latter two are expensive to order just to test.

Thanks in advance.

I run a Magpul on a G19 gen3, works very well and is fairly low profile, 10 round oem mags work, but are hard to strip if you need to, I find the Magpul mags give a bit more " shelf" to grab on to which I like. The only drawback for me is that shooting IDPA, the magwell puts me in a different division, but I can live with it lol

I have some Pierce baseplates for my mags that provide that extra bit of real estate. They work with the back straps and it also keeps me in the correct IDPA division.

I actually picked up two of those from a buddy, haven't tried them yet but I do like the idea, forgot I had them lol, might have to dig them out and give them a try :)

What you seek is the agency arms magwell for a gen 4 in your desired blackstrap config.

I have 1 on my gen 3 that I installed to resolve the exact problem you’re experiencing.
I can confirm the magwells work with oem Glock mags as I’ve used them for years and a good friend uses the same in his gen 4 19

Great info, thanks, keep it coming!

Does anyone have a source for the AA magwell that isn't north of $160???

I don’t know if anyone has better pricing as they all seem to be within par but black leaf industries are a bunch of really awesome dudes who bring in agency stuff.

So I picked up a Pierce grip extension and it arrived today (Amazon is amazing) and the feel is good but (and this may be in my head) I'm thinking that it feels obviously not part of the gun. I'm thinking I have to get the Magpul offering (as it's cheap comparatively) and if I prefer that feel then go with it (if things fit) or go for a more expensive option like the Agency Arms or other.

The Magpul’s price was also the selling point for me, I also didn’t want to drop $160 for something I may not like lol . For $35 or so I’ve been quite happy with it, fairly compact and really cleans up the bottom of the 19 handgrip in my opinion, it has always bothered me how “ unfinished” it looks from the factory. It also does exactly what it is designed for and makes my mag changes much smoother, don’t think you can go wrong for $35 :)

I don't think a magwell is going to solve your problem. The way that they're shaped is likely going to just jack your pinky up and be even less comfortable.

Short of getting a glock 17 to solve this problem, i'd look into getting the finger grooves removed and/or a trigger guard undercut to free up some room on the grip and give you some more real estate options.

Pearce Grips for the win. The magwell arrived today and on installing it, both my son and I agreed that the grip comfort and and control is much better with the Pearce Grip extension. Quite frankly, the control of the 19 with the grip is better even than my G17 (and that's an RTF2 model).

And while my OEM mags won't seat with the magwell and I was willing to dremel the top edges of the base plate, it would mean that no one else's mags would work in my pistol, should that situation ever occur.

Thanks for all your opinions and suggestions.

It looks like it's going to be the G19 to stay, the G17 RTF will likely soon be up for sale.

just because i ran into this a couple months back i thought id mention the following.

while this wasnt on my G19 i was doing this but it was the same problem.
i wanted a magwel on the bottom to improve my grip on my Glock, for me it was because i was shooting a 10mm and wanted to be sure i had a good handle on it.
i wanted one of those BIG magwells so i got one of the big aluminum deals and of course they dont work with the backstraps.
i emailed the company (Clarks Customs) before so i knew the fix already.
you just trim up the back of the backstrap flush with the magwell you are adding on.

if anyone wants i can PM the PDF that Bobby Clark sent me about doing this.

and that magwel is great, makes the gun a lot easier to hang onto with hot loads.

Perhaps the 19x may be something to look at. I agree that the magwell will more than likely push you finger up and crowd the others. While I like the G19 I found that I would pinch my pinky during reloads.

Shot the 19 with the grip extension and confirmed that I prefer that feel and control over that of the 17.

Thanks for posting this. I bought 2 of the Pierce bases on Amazon.ca ($10 ea) and they arrived a few days ago. The pistol now fits my hand perfectly. :)
