Hi All,
Just a quick question about the HK MR223A3.
Is it worth the extra money ($3400) versus a Daniel Defense ?
Did the mechanical aspect improve a lot ?
Wondering what to do about this one.
Buy or pass :-s ?
Btw a Springfield Saint is a 1/3 of the price...
What do you think ?

Well function wise alone, you listed 2 other guns that are both direct impingement where as the HK is a piston

If you have money to burn why not. Is it far superior to a DD? No. Not for anything you will ever use it for. That said, if you afford it as well as optics, ammo, gear, NV, IR gear then why wouldn't you buy it.

I think that would be biased on opinion, but yes IMO way better design and quality. There is a reason they sell out fast, and are hard to get. If you dont buy that 11" right now you probably wont have the chance to buy it again till 2020

Its like driving a Mercedes Benz or a Ford, both will get you from A to B but if I could afford the Benz Id rather drive that.

I own a DD MK18, and I still really want a HK 11" one day, just have so many other guns and projects going on that its not at my top of my list of things to buy right now
 
You can always get a DD, but the HK has less supply. So grab the HK. If you dont like it you can sell it easily on EE and then get a DD.

It's a German piston AR with not many common parts with other ARs. Everything is metric and HK exclusive, even key-mod is not compatible with regular key-mod LOL.

Reliable and well built, but not worth 3.5K IMO.

But "want" sometimes wins over "worth" regardless.
 
My HK is an older version, but is one of my favorite guns. And I have a lot of high-end ARs. Read into that what you will. I really like the integral right-side bolt catch/release on the new ones. Wish mine had that feature.
 
If you leave it alone and shoot it yes it is worth it pending you use the features it comes with.

People focus on the gas piston setup which for our practical purposes up here make 0 difference.

But if you get a dd, add a 2 stage trigger, add an ambi safety, add an aftermarket charging handle, add an ambi mag release, add good iron sights you will notice you are pretty close to the price of the mr223a3.

So if those features appeal to you along with an ambi bolt catch/release, then the hk mr223a3 is actually a pretty competitively priced gun. If those features seem like meh could do without. Get a dd.

I put my order in for a 14.5 hkey. It will show up whenever it does. But if I wanted the 11... i wouldn't hesitate

Be aware not all ar triggers work with it. And the bcg and muzzle thread is propietary, as is the Hkey keymodish thing they have. And it isn't the lightest ar pattern gun.

That being said. On a mechanical front, they work... the end. They are well built, accurate, and dead reliable.

Edit. Forgot to mention the ambi sling loop plates in the back and flared trigger guard out of the gate as well.

No one mentioned how front heavy they are so I thought I would give you a heads up. If you are going to put accessories, i.e. lights, laser etc. be prepared to feel the heft. Don't get me wrong I like mine but if I have all my gear on and am going to spend a few days doing manipulations, drills, a weekend course it would not be my first choice. There is a reason why the military does not get the same barrel profile.
Everything is also proprietary or metric as mentioned so be prepared to spend another 500 bucks for a rail so you can get accessories that can be attached to it or wait months/year(s) for the proprietary HK stuff.
If this is going to be your first AR and you are unsure what you will use it for and how much you will use it then personally I'd get a BCM, Colt Canada, DD etc. These designs are much easier to get parts for and you can change things as you desire to or your budget allows for.
Most new car owners don't start with a Ferrari.

All valid points.

This gun imo is only worth it if you leave it alone as far as its price competitiveness. And yes that barrel is extra thicc. Which translates to not a light gun. Your pt sched better be on point if you want to run this gun hard.
 
Have both DD and HK. I gotta say I love how light the DD is after shooting the MR223. MR223 is just such amazing gun, I have almost 6k into my MR223 and I personally think money well spent. Like everyone said if you have the cash around get it. I’m probably getting one in 14.5 in black . Currently have the 11inch in ral8000

What accessories are you running on your MR 223 plus what barrel length?

I would take a Colt Canada SAS over a DD anyday of the week. Plus it comes in at a better price.
