Can anybody identify this ammo and what it’s for

Cleaning out old boxes and found this:

Looks like 223 but I have no clue what it’s for or it’s caliber or anything about it except it was in a box full of old ammo

Mods: please move tread if I’m in wrong forum.

STANAG 4172 deals with 5.56mm ammo. It also discusses, I believe, link specifications.

Essentially, most (virtually all?) 5.56mm NATO LMGs using belts should be able to fire this ammo - given a BFA, of course. The FN Minimi is used by Canada and the US, of course, but there are others. The Ultimax 100 is widely used. The H&K MG4 fires this stuff, as does the CETME Ameli.

I'd be interested in seeing the headstamp.

Ultimax’s feed from magazines not belts.

I'll take it if the OP doesn't want it! :)

I was (re) watching Black Hawk Down a week or so back, and in the scene where two soldiers get separated from the rest of their crew...there was a close-up of the one guy crouched down, with his belt-fed machine gun still at his shoulder. You could clearly see the ammo was just like this=blanks. (crimped-end where the bullet should be)
