I think I got an awesome deal on this rifle. It being a T3, I was wondering how important switching the bolt shroud and the recoil lug is? I know on the T3x this was addressed. Any other mods I may need? Cheers
 
Great rifle. Fella I shoot with has one in 6.5x55. just shoot it as is and fix what few shortcomings you might find.

How is the trigger?
 
if you don't care for the plastic, why not go ahead and change it?
I would.

Doesn't cost much.

As an example, I have a CZ 452 and the steel mags have plastic bottom plates that drive me nutz. The other day I found a source for metal replacements. One day before long I'll get them.... Spent money on stupider things.
 
Google tikka performance mississauga , they also have nice stuff. The .com site is like a N Korean buffet, slim pickings. I bought a reciever length rail the late Dec, that too is now out of stock.

My first tikka I changed the bolt shroud to a metal one by mountain tactical. I now own 2 more and have not felt the need to change it and like them just the same. A 223 will hardly imprint your aluminum recoil lug and I wouldn’t change it anyway I think they are made to imprint and they only changed it because people complained, just like the loading port the changed that they shouldn’t have imo
 
If you are going to glass bed the action with then I would suggest replacing the recoil lug, you might want to see how it shoots first though. I replaced a couple of bolt shrouds, left the plastic on others, also have a couple T3X and I do like the metal ones but if I came across a T3 I don't think I would bother with the shroud again.

Picked up a new bolt handle, shroud, Harris bipod, and a number 6 adapter at the post office today from them. All installed. A happy camper tonight.
8 boxes of ammo from 35 - 55 gr ordered today from SFRC.

Was this the left handed .223 Tikka Sporter? I handled it and was going to buy it until I saw the 1-12" twist IIRC. I already own a T3Lite LH and Varmint LH in a Tac21 chassis both in .223 with 1-8" fast twists, love them. If the one Dianne showed me would have been 1-8" twist I'd have completed my Tikka trifecta lol.

It is, and surprisingly they still have more in stock. At $1370, I thought it was a bargain. My Tikka Varmint. 308 has some fine company. Gotta get to the range and break those puppies in.
