So I can't say this is a clone, by any means, but let's call it a "modern take" on the early M16. I've always liked the Vietnam-era M16, and decided to gather parts to make a NR M16-themed version when the Maccabee and Modern Sporter receiver sets were announced.

Upper:
  • ATRS slick-side upper
  • Stag complete 'retro' upper (including barrel assembly, BCG, and A2 carry handle)(I may see if anyone wants to trade the A2 carry handle for an A1 carry handle in the future)
  • BCM charging handle
  • Brownells green repro A1 furniture (I bought the brown set as well, so I can change it up if I want)
  • AAC Blackout flash hider (so not remotely clone-correct, but at least it has three prongs!)

Lower:
  • ATRS lower (duh)
  • Colt LPK
  • Bushmaster (I think, it was from my parts bin) buffer, spring, and tube

I think it turned out pretty well. Light, traditional(ish) looking. Should be a fun plinker!








This was actually going to be my second build, planned to happen when my second ATRS set eventually shows up - I had intended to strip my SA20 and build a C7A1-themed rifle with all of the Colt Canada parts on the first receiver set, but decided to hold off on that project until my second receiver set arrives, as it will be a forward-assist upper and thus more correct for a C7 build. That, and I couldn't get the gas tub on the SA20 upper to move! :p

I'm planning on a 602 clone. I have a Colt large hole upper, Brownells black furniture set, pencil barrel on order and I'm in the process of importing the lower from Brownells and just applied for the Import Certificate.
 
I'm trying to figure out what receiver set to use. Hopefully Stag comes out with one.;)

Wow nice! I might sell my sa20/c7a2 MDI SLR non restricted with the elcan, trisds etc to buy back my okd valmet! I’ll post a picture soon!

Looks better with the black mag. I decided I'm not going to bother with an A1 carry handle - I like it as is. It was never meant to be a true clone :) I had it out, and it functioned perfectly. Thanks ATRS and Stag! I may put an optic on it at some point and see how it does in the accuracy department.

Im jealous! I want to do the same with my second c7a2 kit , I’m waiting to see another atrs pop up on EE!

Not trying to jump off topic here but the OP's rifle is almost exactly what I was hoping to do but with a Stag 10. My question is, can the green AR15 handguards fit a AR10 with the same basic barrel configuration?

I THINK so, but I'm not 100% sure either. I've been thinking about getting a fixed sight post for my Stag10 and putting handguards on mine as well, rather than the free-float rail....
