The Freedom Ordnance FX-9 OWNERS thread.

Thanks, sound advice. I went with 4.2 under 115 grain to start. Did a batch up and will test this weekend. Can't wait! Now all I need to do is find myself a decent looking red dot for such a slim frame.

I’m down at 3.0 of TG and a 130 gn bullet and it cycles fine. Unfortunately the new Glock G34 I got to go with this FX-9 actually won’t cyle the light load so I’ll be bumping it up . Maybe I’ll get more accuracy at the 200 yard range than I’m experiencing now. Having trouble hitting a 24” steel gong , but hey I’m scaring the #### out of it !! Aim high !! Anybody got any input on their own loads at 100-200 yds ?

Holosun makes a very slim red dot as do a few others and they are fast as fast up close for sure. I ran a Burris red dot on a few platforms including this one which is bright as hell and easy to see through . Now I’m trying out a 1-4x24 magnified red dot which I read somewhere doesn’t interest you but my aging eyeballs need all the help they can get. We’ll see how that works out.

My loads are 4-4.5 grains of TG depending on the projectile. I haven't got my FX-9 yet but the 4.5gr/115gr load cycled my buddy's FX-9 perfectly, I still haven't found a load that my Vector won't cycle :)

I used to play with my Vector in 45acp (I've owned 3 vectors since they came out, still have the 9mm) on the 200 yard gong with open sights. Once I figured out the holdover I was able to hit the plate quite regularly. I think it was an 18 or 24 inch plate. The holdover wasn't as much as I was expecting, it was fun to shoot it that far but these things are way better inside 100 yards. Groups open up quickly past 100 yards, probably because the projectiles are shaped more like sugar cubes than bullets :p

Your G34 might loosen up after a couple hundred heavier loads and start to cycle your light loads.

That Burris just on there for the picture? Looks like it's way too far forward to get a proper sight picture through it.

Ain’t that the truth . These things are like tack drivers in the 50yd pistol bay ... then things open up a bit out on the rifle range at the 100 yard mark but I need a damn spotter telling me I’m two feet left and three feet low out at 200 yards. But yes , the 9 mm projectile designed for pistols has the aerodynamic properties of a basketball. It must slow down considerably after 100 yards too eh ? I’m thinking I might need to run fmj factory loads for the stages that have the longer shots. My powder puff IDPA loads aren’t helping me past 50 ... no suprises there.

Thinking you’re right about the G34 . Must get some heavier loads through it !

As for the Burris I did try a number of positions before settling on this distance pictured below, but yes that was the day I got the scope ...lol. It has a generous eye relief thankfully which allows me to run it a bit forward for two reasons. Firstly, I keep the buttstock short so I can reach as far as possible down the handguard which makes me tuck up quite close to the reciever . Secondly, I found that the aft end of the scope with its 46mm ( I’ll double check that ) diameter tube leaves little to no room for your #### beaters to grab that sad little charging handle. Doh !

Now I found that when mounting that scope you had to either be ALL ON the handguard slots OR all on the upper receiver slots . Which is to say there was no straddling the two. The uniform intervals go to hell in a hand basket where the handguard meets the upper . Is this typical? It definitely affected my ability to fine tune the position of this particular 1-4 magnified red dot and the American Defense mount it sits in.

Here are the pics with the new handguard on her. Not really a mind blowing change but I wanted to try out this super thin one just to see. So far the things I have changed are: muzzel device (semi custom), handguard(not sure the actual brand), trigger (hyperfire 24c), grip and stock (magpul) and buffer (h3 atm, experimenting at present).

My FX-9 showed up today.
After unboxing and a general touchy feely session I stripped it down and wiped out the inside of the receiver and wiped down the bolt.
Lightly oiled the bolt and charge handle and put it back together. I also swapped out the A2 grip for a MIAD I had in the parts box. When buying grips you need to buy one without beavertail.
I went over all fasteners and didn't find anything loose.

Installed my Aimpoint T-1

Went out in the back yard to function test and zero the sight.
40 rounds so far with four failures. The four was actually only one but it took me pushing the bullet into the case four times before figuring out what was going on.
I couldn't see it from the ejection port with my brass catcher on so took longer to fix than it should have.
I pushed out the rear pin and opened the rifle thinking maybe the feed ramp had broke off or come loose but instead found a piece of spent brass was lodged in front of the chamber and was pushing the new round out of alignment. Once that was out of the way it was back to perfect function.

So zero to fourty rounds saw one failure. Not bad but not enough to really make a solid evaluation.

As for accuracy, I was shooting three at a time then adjusting the optic to set it about an inch low at 25 yards. Groups were around an inch or so at 25yds. I'm tempted to throw my 1-4 on it just to print a couple groups at 50 or 100. My eyes can pepper the gongs with a dot sight but I'm not overly precise with it since I have mild astigmatism and the dot goes a little oval on me.

Ammo was 115gr Campro over 4.5gr Tightgroup. All rounds fired without the brass catcher landed about six feet out and between 1:00 and 3:00.
That was the end of my 115gr batch, next up will be the 1000 Campro 124gr over 4.1gr of Tightgroup I put together last month.

Magazines used were the factory supplied 10/18 Korean made one, a Glock 10/10, a KCI 10/17, and a Glock 10/30.
I also slipped a few more mags of the above brands in just to see if any were tighter than others and most dropped free but a couple were a little snug, not tight, just didn't drop free with the button. I've got some Magpul brand G17 mags as well I'll take out with me next time.

I think the only mods coming will be to add a couple more sling attachment points.

Edit
I ran another 60 through this afternoon. One stovepipe out of 60 rounds.
Round count now at 100 :)

Hummm, as a lefty, I might be able to make this work using a shell deflector. Hummmm

Mine ejects mostly between 1:00-2:00 with a few going out towards 3:00. Other than the gasses you should be fine for the most part as a lefty.
Might have to 3-d print something if needed but attachment might be a problem since there's not port door and my 9mm AR brass deflector uses the port door hinge pin to mount it.

Read the red print at the bottom. Guess you're SOL unless you come up with something on your own.

Either that or stop doing it wrong and hold it to your right shoulder :p

I knew they wernt lefty friendly before I bought it but I’ve shot other guns that wernt lefty friendly and had no issues, except for a tavor, that one gave me a brass diet!
Shooting from the right side isn’t an option due to a buggered up eye but I might be able to rig up a plastic deflector that I can two side tape to the reciever. I don’t think it will take much of a shield to deflect the gas

Hopefully you meant deflect the brass ya ? Ain’t nothin gonna deflect the gas .

Yes I noticed this exact same issue on mine. The red dot I put on had to go completely on one side or the other of the upper/foreward rail. Couldn't be spread over the 2. Thats another reason why I'm leaning towards the vortex strikefire II with the single point cantilever rail riser.

I spent $7 on an oversized latch catch for the charging handle that makes it way easier to grab. This was recommended by my LGS and @ $7 was totally worth it.

Oooh got a pic of that oversized latch catch and name of the LGS that stocked it ? Sounds like a good alternative. I’m not impressed with having to buy an $80 upgrade from the company that dreamt up that awful first offering to begin with.

On that note I did suggest to Freedom Ordnance to just stock the FX-9 with the new charging handle right from the get go and they replied that t(ey would be doing that soon ... I read into that as soon as they have used up the inventory of the current abomination.
