Interesting Range Session

Earlier this week, a tropical cyclone crossed the coast just north of here with wind gusts of 130KPH – Expected to make landfall again to-morrow with winds gusting to 275KPH.

These weather conditions make for an interesting reality check if you want to see just how difficult it is to shoot a 22LR accurately – even at close range.

Below is a target shot at 50 metres outdoors (SK Pistol Match & Rifle Match) – Heavily overcast with showers and swirling wind gusts up to 30 knots. When these types of storms are in the area, it’s not uncommon to experience brief periods where the wind gusts suddenly drop to near zero – Clearly illustrated by the variation in group size.

Target shot with an un-modified Weihrauch Running Boar rifle which is one of the most consistently accurate 22’s I have owned.

Check out the top group in the second column – I have been buying/selling/building and shooting “high end” rim fires for over 50 years – That’s as close to a “one holer” as I have seen! I’ll also add that this target was shot by my wife who at 67 years old, still has the skill and physical ability to shoot like this.

I recently had another of these Weihrauch HW60 actions threaded and fitted with a 3 groove Benchmark – Really looking forward to testing that one as these actions give away nothing to the Anschutz 54.

Nice groups and a very nice rifle. I wasn't aware that Weihrauch made anything other than air rifles. I will look into these a little more.

Those targets are a good illustration of the havoc that wind can present, even at close range. And Mrs. Harris can shoot.

Weihrauch rimfires are not seen very often in Canada. Last year a Weihrauch air rifle dealer brought in the only new ones I've ever seen, the HW66 Production (also made in a TH model)

There are a few other models, including a match rifle that is no longer made. The others include the HW 66 Jagd Match

and the HW60J sporter

As Mr. Harris says, they are excellent rifles.

I look forward to the results from this rifle.

I wonder how this action would compare to a SUHL 150 action? D.

If you have a Suhl 150 post action pictures so readers can compare.

Here's the HW actions. The receivers and bolts look the same between the models, with trigger groups being notably different.
