Henry new single shots look interesting

I want a Henry Buffalo Classic: 30- or 32-inch barrel...octagon would be sweet...globe front sight, aperture rear...decent walnut, brass trim, crescent buttplate…:)

How hot do you figure you can load these? Obviously they're not Ruger No1 strong, but would they be able to handle the Buffalo bore magnum lever rifle loads? (eg 405gr at 2000fps+-)

I am wondering about this as well. The H&R single shot's in 45-70 can handle modern lever gun loads. Some people even load them to Ruger number 1 levels (though I wouldn't try it). I haven't seen one of the Henry's in person, but they really do look good in the pictures. I'm not sure if I like the idea of the tang release on a thumper like a 45-70 though.

Awesome! I’m glad to hethat they are in fact quality well made weapons. I had quickly looked at the images in the link and thought of the H&R single shots I kick myself for not buying. If they are of that quality or better the yes I’d be happy atthe $500 level.

Sometimes a guy gets stuck in the mindset of a few years ago and the prices things were and likely never will be again.

I have a TC Hotshot for my boys and since it’s so similar to the Contender and Encore I thought of moving them into one of those as they grow. But these might be viable alternatives as well. Will have to keep an eye on them.

I have also owned a few H&R single shots, the Henry is significantly higher quality.

I don’t know guys, tax in $600?
For that price I’d expect nice high gloss blueing on the receiver.
Henry rifle’s always seem cheesy

That would be nice, but is it realistic? If you were buying a $600 bolt rifle, would you expect that level of finish? Would it be possible to find?

The advent of the ultra-budget bolt rifle makes it really tough for a manufacturer to make a go of a new single shot mainly because the bulk of budget rifle buyers seem to equate quality with (among other things...) magazine capacity. "This here Axis holds three bullets in it, and that Henry only has one...so why isn't the Henry 1/3 the price? It should cost $150, tops!"

To me, one of the most appealing things about a single-shot is the fact that it's a single shot. The H&R line was a big favourite of mine, because almost all of the many I owned over the years were good shooters. But I recall overhearing a number of gun-shop discussions in which a prospective buyer would say something along those lines.

I'm just waiting for a Cabela's gun-schill to tell me that a Kimber Ascent weighs 5 pounds, but an Axis is almost seven...so the Axis is a better deal per pound.

The henrys are advertised as being able to fire any factory loading. So the 4570 can be safely loaded with buffalo bore ammo

That's the only thing I would avoid with the Henry Single, that action opening lever is sitting right there to embed itself in the web of your hand with a high recoil round. I had a buddy that accidently pulled both barrels in a double shotgun with the same type of lever on it. That lever embedded itself past the large end into his hand...he was a hurtin dude for a long while.

I think one of these would be a good idea. A rifle I’m not as picky with and doesn’t cost thousands. Good opportunity to try a new caliber. Where r these suckers located

Hey now, the axis holds 4 in the mag +1, so the Henry should only cost like $80! Lol

Just keep your thumb along side the pistol grip instead of draping it over the top.
