Ar Magazine Costs in Canada

Why does it seems that AR and/or pistol magazines are exponentially higher in price than they are in the US? I know the exchange rate comes into factor when deciding price for Canada, but I'm finding US mags that are 1/3 the price of Canadian mags. Why am I paying $30+tax for a PMAG that only holds 5 rounds when the US pays $10 for PMAGs that hold 30?

Also where can I find cheap mags for my AR and PMAGs for my G19?

Pretty much everything gun related is more expensive in Canada than in the US except for the venerable SKS.

Pins cost money. They don't roll of the assembly line that way.

I suspect IF you culd purchase P Mags in Venezula or Zimbabwe they would be even cheaper given their economies. You seem to forget this IS Canada NOT the USA.
They have a larger population, a thriving economy and FAR less social assistance that COSTS MONEY to support. Our dollar is worth far less than USA and the costs of living are far higher on everything maybe with the exception of corruption that we get a great deal of from this government.
You think our health system is really free, along with education and welfare do you. Things cost more here than in some foreign countries and the same things also cost far less than in some foreign countries.
Welcome to Canada.

because retailers screw Canadians over for everything

You have no clue do you?

It should be called retail rape. My daughter works for Sportchek and the mark up is ridiculous. Example, they had a family day sale cost plus ten percent. I bought a North Face jacket ($480) and a North Face t-shirt ($40) paid $160 for the jacket $5 for the t-shirt.

In my job, custom millwork for grocery stores, businesses etc mark up is unbelieveable. For un-named grocery store I made some wooden fruit type crates. Couple hours of labour and a hundred bucks of pine, 20 crates and the company charged 100 per crate.

Now I don't fault anyone for trying to make a buck. It's my choice buy or not. If margins in retail firearms are paper thin then so be it but I'm so sick and tired hearing about it.

It is what it is, is crying about it going to change it?
Buy them or don't, the retailers don't care what you think because they already sell them so fast they can't keep them on the shelves if there is any delay in export from the US, if the company they pay to import them screws up an order, if the company they pay to rivet them is slow, oh wait, I just explained why they cost more here as well.
If you don't buy them someone else will, supply and demand.

You should be more worried about the cost of ammo that keeps going up, at least you can reuse the magazines.

In the big scheme of things, the cost of mags is negligible when you factor in ammo cost.

For example a 10-rd AR pistol mag is $30 each. It should be good for at least 100 loads before needing a spring or follower, if at all.

1,000 rounds .223 is $350-400, add $30 for a mag. Cost of mag then becomes almost negligible. It’s about perspective.

If we compare our prices vs US prices, I think you’ll be one miserable fellow.

No one buys just one mag. It starts to add up when you buy 10 overpriced mags. I'm just glad its not like how it was 10 years ago when Pmags were even more expensive than there are now.

Who in the actual f**k sells a PMAG for 30 bucks?

Be patient and either wait for sales, or wait for them to come across the EE for a good price.
I’ve got a milk crate full of magazines, did I need to buy 10 more? No. But at 11 bucks a pop for unused gen 2 PMAGS I’ll find room for them. Then again, I’m guessing you didn’t live through the post Sandy Hook days when PMAGS were selling for 50-75 bucks a piece (see sig line below)
