Savage mk2 extraction issues

I'm sure this is a common issue with high round count .22 so I'm hoping someone can direct me to a source for replacement parts. The two extractors (either side of the bolt face) have noticeable wear on them and dont extract the casing from the barrel even when its clean. Again I'm going with worn out parts as the culprit. Thanks for any help.

Actually, this seems to be just a Savage MKII thing. I don't think they cut the extractor slot close enough to the chamber mouth, so there is not enough rim exposed for the extractor claw to bite onto.

Use a dremel and fine point diamond grinding post to lightly remove some material from the extractor slot, that'll fix you right up.
 
I don't recommend dremeling anything. The silver extractor should have a rounded tip. The blued extractor should be pointed. Check the tension on the extractor spring clip as mentioned below. Re-bend it if necessary to increase tension. I also recommend lightly polishing the flat surfaces on your extractors to remove burrs. If this doesn't work replacement parts are necessary.

Replacement parts are not a viable long term solution. Removal of material from the extractor slot is the true fix.

People gotta stop putting bandaid's on these MKII's and just get the Dremel out. Preferably, Savage should just cut the extractor slot properly in the first place.
 
There is one other possibility, if it should be determined that the extractor slot is indeed cut close enough to the chamber wall. The angle relationship between the extractor slot and extractor head may be off. In such a case, the extractor will be pushed away from the inside edge of the rim towards the outside, where it will easily slip off. See diagram. Evidence of this condition will be wear inside the extractor slot away from the chamber mouth, with corresponding wear on the extractor tip.



Evidence of the proper angle relationship will be wear at the chamber mouth and corresponding wear on the "hook" of the extractor head. See photo of this CZ breech, you can see the bluing worn away only at the chamber mouth (right side slot), and this indicates the proper angle relationship for good extraction.

 
I checked mine out and the wear seems good. I stripped the bolt and cleaned everything as well as tighten the retaining clip. I'll see how that goes, if it fails to work I'll try removing some material.
 
The extractor slot may need alteration or cleaning. The right hand extractor may need 'sharpening'. The extractor does not really wear out... it is steel the case is brass. The fit of the extractor and slot are critical.
 
I agree with all of the above but in my case i switched to American eagle amunition. I have not had an FTE since! I only shoot within 30 yrds open sights so accuracy is good enough. I have one of the newer matte finish mark iis and had the FTE with a lot of ammo. I had a much older polished blued G model than perfectly. Wish I still had it.
