Nork JW 20, SA takedown on cheap at tenda

I've never even seen this before reading this thread, that being said looks sweet, love the takedown option, and just ordered one. $203.39 with shipping (didn't want to spend the extra for free shipping this time) seems pretty cheap. Here's to hoping it works like it should!

Would anyone happen to know where to get spare parts for these?
Received mine as a gift from the girlfriend yesterday, went to make sure the take down function worked and the tab that holds it tightly together flew off with the springs.
Contacted North Sylva but nothing available.

Ok so how did this happen so I know how not to do that? Reading old thread on this rifle it seems you are not alone with parts going mia when taking it apart.

The best advice I can give is watch the tightening ring that's on the barrel before taking the forend off.
The only thing I can figure is that it was too loose so when I slid the tab back it went too far and the springs shot out.
I found the cat playing with one of the springs and the tab yesterday (thank god) so I jimmy-rigged it to sit tight but I probably wont take it down again until I source parts.
Even though I had that hiccup, I did get to shoot it yesterday and it fired everything I put into it except I had 1 jam with wild cats.

There is a small free floating piece that sits above the bolt, which, when present, prevents double feeding of rounds.
Very easy to lose, and I have seen it go AWOL on both Browning and copies.

Makes for a very miserable experience.

I have bought a Browning extractor and it dropped right in to a Norc copy.

I can probably dig a takedown button out and take a picture of it if that would help at all towards making one. Not a huge part to make with hacksaw and file.

That may be a great help!

Ok cool good to know. So you don't have to loosen that ring before taking it apart?

No. The ring is an adjustment that you use to set the barrel up so when you spin it into it's proper position, the barrel is snugged against the action.

Adjust it so that you just come up snug when the slot for the locking slider is aligned, and leave it alone unless the action is feeling sloppy and loose.

Should be years before you have to #### with it again. Sooner, if you are a compulsive disassembler of your stuff.

For takedowns, hold the bolt open with your thumb (keeps from breaking the extractor), while gripping the action, and turn the barrel assy in the correct direction. Hint: Look at the slot cut in the forend wood, to see where the lug is that is supposed to stop the rotation of the barrel far past it's proper position, as well as to see which way to stick the barrel into the action before trying to assemble it.

I wonder if the pic they have up is of the actual rifles. Shows a Norconia which is a German Norc distributor rifle.
Also a big dent in the side of the receiver lol

I'm anxiously awaiting pics and reviews by you guys. I've been trying to find Weaver 60A bases in Canada for you but not much luck so far.

I grabbed a JW-20 at the Chilliwack gun show last weekend from CanadaAmmo, $180 with a spare barrel assy. Going to scope up one barrel, and leave the other with irons. The Weaver #60a is available on Amazon, if you're so inclined. Funny thing is, mine has a dent (not as bad as that one, barely noticable) in the exact same place. Doesn't seem to affect function.

Mine arrived today...what a mess. These are really old stock, box looked like it was buried in dirt and water, staples were are disintegrated from rust, and it smelled like a horders basement.
Good news is it was completely covered in whale oil or whatever they use, so everything was in pretty good shape. Only bit of rust I found was under the buttplate and it came off easy and not visible anyway.
These are not anywhere near functional out of the box, full teardown degrease required, everything is jammed with whale gut oil. The unfinished inside sections of wood had stuff growing on it...and dry as a bone. Bit of sandpaper and BLO to bring that back to life. Outside wood looks pretty good.
Still cleaning, everything looks pretty good however, parts are as expected or a bit better...rough but I haven't cut myself with anything yet either.
Will take pics when I get it oiled up and back together, but it's a few hours work so be prepared lol.

Edit...did cut myself, on reassembly the locking latch took a chunk out of my finger lol.
Figured out how to get the barrel tight. After you reassemble and tighten the lock ring as much as it will go on the receiver, take it back off and give it just 1 more click, it should twist on nice and tight with no play then.
S/N starts with 92, so they may be that old. The wood finish is kind of gross, like a paint and lacquered combo, checkering is decent and cut. Sights are OK, not sure when I'll have time for a function check but hopefully this weekend. Trigger is light but lots of creep. Springs seem weak from being ancient, not sure if it will be a problem yet, won't be easy to source new ones. Gun is surprisingly heavy. Not nearly as carry friendly as I was hoping.
I generally rate Nork guns by "would I buy another one of these at this price"...right now I'm not sure. The amount of work to clean these up is ridiculous. I probably will never use the takedown feature just for transportation. I guess if it shoots ok and functions ok I'll be happy with one... really glad I didn't drop $700+ on the Browning version which has all the same shortcomings lol.
New shortcoming...scope mounting was futile, holes were not drilled straight on the barrel, plus it looked ridiculous, irons it will be lol. Plus my trigger group rattles around now that it's all cleaned up, will have to decide if it's worth tightening up.

Thanks for the thorough review. I was on the fence but I think I will pass. I have to say that I am a bit surprised though. My JW-25a has been great, except for the magazine that came with it and the fact that the open sights can't be brought on target. So, I guess I should qualify "great" with "for what I paid".
