Ruger vs Savage for beginner

Any suggestions for a beginner?
Currently looking at these two (within my budget) in 6.5 creedmoor
--Ruger Predator
--Savage 110 Tactical
The idea is so start target shooting @ 100 m, and work my way up to 800+
Also looking to hunt deer with this rifle at shorter distances.
Any thoughts?
 
Either will do the trick, my preference is the Savage, I've always really liked the design of the action. Only issue is the tactical is fairly heavy compared to the Ruger Predator. Both will go bang everytime you pull the trigger. Go to you local gun store and try a few, see what you like the feel of the most.

Yea I saw that, 2+ lbs difference in weight.

I have no first hand experience but have read good things about each rifle, if prices are similar i dont think either is a bad choice

I would rather pack the Ruger around due to it being lighter.

If money wasn't an issue I would buy one rifle for each scenario. Is nice to have the flexibility
This will be my first hunting season so must likely will be sitting down.

Then the weight won't bother you on your hunts and will be an asset at the range.
 
Until you said "hunting" I would have recommended the 10T-SR from Cabelas. It's a heavy barreled boat anchor that shoots well for $650 on sale. I didn't like the fluted barrel on the 110T, never been a fan of them.
 
Hands down the 110 Tactical, the Ruger isn't much of a target rifle in my opinion, much better for hunting though. I went through this exercise recently and purchased a 10T-SR. I'm actually regretting not spending the extra on the 110 for the stock. It's probably not that much better, but I'm looking at replacing the stock already, not an expense I wanted to take on at the moment. If your hunting from a static position the 110 will be fine...unless your one of those wilting flowers that can't lug a bit of weight through the woods. ;)

I have a 10T-SR also, I find the stock quite good other than not having an adjustable comb (too low with a scope mounted) If that's the problem you have, check out the Beartooth 2.0 Comb Raising Kit before you buy a stock. $30 from Bass Pro.
I put the first one on my Savage, the second one on my CZ 452, and I have a third one set aside for a T1x when it finally arrives.
They work fine, look half decent, and don't break the bank. Some complain about them moving and/or being a pig to install. I haven't had either problem, but I will say this, follow the instructions on installation.
The benefits of the adjustable stock on the 110 Tactical didn't outweigh the minus of the lighter barrel IMO, plus the hideous tan stock on the 6.5 CM turned me off.
The 10T-SR has impressed me from the get-go for the price, but maybe I'm easily impressed.
 
If your new to the firearms best to handle both if you can. Both will do the job its more about fit and finish to your preference really.

The stock of the 110 tactical does look nice, and I like that it comes with different cheek risers. The bolt charging handle seems nicer too.

As far as the woods go, I definitely need to work on my fitness, or lack of it haha

Yes I agree with you, but local stores don't have them. It would be an online order.

Would you choose a Remington 700 over the Savage 110?

As far as available parts go, what would someone add to it or change? For example I see that the Magpul 700 is very close in price the Tikka CTR
 
I bought the 110 tactical in 6.5 creedmore. The stock has nice features and it hs the accutrigger which I like a lot. With some load development I got it down to a sub moa load as well.
