M1 carbine was not really a rifle, it was a replacement for a pistol. So no, no vote here.
I rather like the 1941 Johnson Automatic myself. East to shoot, 10 round non detachable, but top up-able magazine (With the action closed), easy to take apart, recoil operated not gas operated so easy to clean and, accurate. It has a very distinct recoil, kinda like getting hit twice but fairly gentle each time.
Only about 60,000 made so not high numbers but every unit that was issued sent back favorable reports.
