What scope should I buy for the kids Savage Rascal?

Don't get the $60 burris 3-9x32 rimfire scope, eye box sucks on it. I doubt their 4x is any better, but I haven't tried it. I think the Simmons 3-9x32 is likely the same.

I bought a 4x AIM scope for my savage mark II on Amazon (before I bought the 3-9x32 burris) and I liked it. I still have it, if my Enfield doesn't destroy it I might go back to it. Its not short though it's your average length scope. Was only $40 or so.

OP a budget would help. To some people, $300 is a cheap scope to others cheap is $60 or less...

I really like my Nikon Prostaff rimfire II, not small by any means but I think a very good scope for the price tag!
 
I went through the same process for my son's rascal. Wanted the smallest, lightest fixed power scope without a bunch of bulky tactical looking knobs etc for not a lot of money.

Found out that a fixed 4x is actually pretty hard to find. I'm a little embarrassed to say that I got a scorpion rimfire scope. I know they don't have the best reputation but I got it on sale and if it doesn't hold up they do have a warranty. It's on a .22 so it's not like it's taking a pounding...right? Lol. So far so good though. Time will tell.

That being said I'm keeping my eyes open for an older brand name fixed 4 if one pops up.

Suther, cheap to me is $100 - 150... or less! The kid has a little bit to learn about gun handling... so this is supposed to be a cheap build to get him learned in the sport. I'll look into the 4x AIM.

AB.boy, got a picture of the rascal with the scorpion scope? I've been looking for a fixed 4x.... all the ones I find have already been purchased... or they are beyond my budget... hard to put an $600 Luepold on a $200 rifle for the boy...

The prostaff isn’t fixed but comes in a 3-9x model and they’ve sometimes go on sale for $150, regular $200 I believe.
 
Dependith, how far are you setting up the targets and oww blind is the junior/ettah?

I'd find an old Leupold 2.5 one inch objective type scope.
Then yer kid/kiddette be styl'in.
 
The bushnell banner 4-32 scopes have found a home on a few of my 22's. Pretty compact and I havent had any issues with one yet. Priced at around $100 and quite clear for the money.

I have a banner that came on my savage axis. It's on my 243 now but has held up to hundreds of rounds of 270 and 243 and it has gone hunting a handful of times without issue.

I've been looking at the prostaff rimfire scopes. $189/199 regular price for 3-9 or 4-12, and they go on sale sometimes. 13 oz so not super heavy.

I like Looky's idea, but I don't think you'll find anything like that in your budget.
 
I second the red dot. The Bushnell TRS-25 is right in your price range, can fit on a single weaver base forward of the ejection port, giving full access for loading, and is much lighter than any of the scopes to boot.
 
I bought a used 2-7×32 Bushnell Elite 3200 for my daughters pink Rascal. She is a 12yr old sharpshooter with it (well pretty good anyways) It is a nice smallish scope that doesnt look too big on the diminutive Rascal. I think I paid about 150 for it on the EE.
 
I don’t have a photo handy, but I put a TRS25 on my sons rascal once he harassed me for a scope long enough. He loves it, I think it’s great and he’s getting good at smacking beer cans out to 75 yards with it.
 
I'm in the same boat. Bought a Rascal for my kids to learn on, and have been wondering what to put on for an optic. My son is sensitive to the weight, and I'm afraid a scope would restrict him to shooting from the bench only. The TSR-25 looks like a good option. I've heard the main complaint with those is the size of the dot. Is there a version with a 2 MOA or smaller dot in a similar price range?

I think you've got to hit $200+ to get a smaller dot. Vortex crossfire red dot is $199 with a 2moa dot.
