I am wondering if a New Dillon powder measure has any value. I bought a new 650 which came with the measure. It certainly did not perform as advertised and I replaced it with a Lee measure. Not trying to sell it here, just looking for any value it might have.

Cheers,

Ian

What powder and what is your charge varience? Mine with titegroup is super accurate and throws an accurate charge about 95 percent of the time. Did you clean yours properly before use? I also found doing the elastic band mod/trick thing works well for this as well.

You are right, Dillon powder measures are garbage,
I'll send you 40$ to take it off your hands!

Yep, this had to be an April 1st... Not as good as the Vortex Cobra though!

Thanks for the input. It is set up properly, I did the phone thing with Dillon and made one change and it did help but not enough. 46.2 Varget. I do have an older measure as well and it does well with for pistol loads.
I don't give up too easily so I will try in again when I am using ball/flake powder. The Lee auto drum works very well and is so easy to set up, Dillon needs to do a deal with Lee.

Sorry to hijack, just bought a 650xl, what is the elastic band trick?

Thanks Corey

The LEE powder measure will never hold a candle to the superior Dillon unit!
Replacing it was a mistake, there are few downsides to the superior Dillon unit.

Okay, the Dillon sizer die is pretty much crap & the LEE sizer is superior, but not the powder measure. Just sayin'.....

I would say you are wrong on the Dillon dies. I have 4 sets and they are perfect.

The lee dies are OK.

LEE Sizer is better? I'm looking for a new sizer/depriming die for .223. You're right saying the one from Dillon is not the best out here. So you would recommend Lee over Dillon?

Here I am again. I have been playing the powder measure game.

I have thrown a lot of charges with three measures. What I am posting below is what I got on my last short test but was what I expected from my previous tests. This is on a Dillon 650 press and in these conditions EVERY throw counts. In fact I do see the powder level as it goes by and I did not include one at 39gr on the Dillon but that would have given it an ES of 7gr!! Must have had a log jam. The only load tested was 46 gr of Varget and I am aware that pistol loads are smaller and easier mainly because of the type of powders used, at least my 20 yr old Dillon works that way.

Dillon Measure ES 1.1gr
Lee Perfect Powder Measure ES .4gr
Lee Auto Drum ES .3

Who's laughing now??

Jesus, you were serious?

I thought you were just running an April 1 gag on...sorry - I didn't mean to be insulting.

As a past user of Lee progressive presses and a very thankful owner of Dillon progressive presses;
I'll respectfully disagree with your assessment.

A lot of people have a dislike for Lee, not sure why? Lee is my go to for dies and casting. Same as the measure, I really don't care about the name on the box even if it has been blessed by Donnie. I do superior work and my tools either work or go in the can, simple.

I find my Hornady powder mesure on my LNL AP work better than the Dillon on my XL650 for Titegroup powder. The Dillon powder mesure on my XL650 is not as consistent in my experience.

I am interested in what you consider "better". I have two Dillon measures allocated to titegroup powder (.38 sp, .45 colt) both probably set 15 years ago (upwards of 100,000 loads since then) for my preferred load and have never had a variance of more than tenth of a grain on every re-check I have done since.
