So I'm looking at picking up a new AR barrel for some precision work. The goal is sub MOA, with the ability to take it out to 600 meters, so I'm looking at 18 or a 20 inch and most likely in 223 Wylde. It needs to be 223 so I can take it to Petawawa and they will not allow any non-military calibers (so no 224 Valk for me).

Obviously proof would be a dream barrel, but they are pricey as all hell, so maybe a rainier arms ultramatch barrel? What is the ###iness in Barrels? does anyone actually stock proof barrels or do I just hand over my CC and wait for 3-4 months should I go down that rabbit hole?

IBI. 19” Steacy

I just placed 5th overall in the last PRS match. I was the top Semi shooter

There’s a Christensen Arms Carbon Fiber wrapped .223, 20 inch barrel on the EE.
The guy is asking $1000
And from my previous experience with proof and CA barrels, it’s more like 6 months +

My precision AR15 sports a Shilen 20" SS barrel with Wylde chamber. The barrel comes complete with matching bolt for proper headspace. This rig shoots sub_MOA all day long with the right handloads.

sadly their website is blocked at work, I'll have to take another look at it tonite. I'm not familiar with the steacy profile and I haven't been able to find much online. Would you be kind enough to explain what it is/how it's different?

I've seen multiple posts about IBI on CGN, read good things on CGN, and they are canadian, so that's a plus but outside of CGN there isn't as much exposure out there. Their prices are definitely good/great, they are just not one of the big players and there aren't many reviews so I get nervous with them.

I would not be nervous. First class people making barrels. Yes they are new, but even the ''big dogs' started somewhere.

I did recently get a IBI as I was building my first AR. Very nice shooting it with federal black pack ammo. Very little recoil and for a beginner I was hitting a smaller gong at 80 very easy and nice grouping just standing. Defenetly read their webpage as the 1 guy has won multiple competitions with that barrel

You should also check out the Criterion Hybrid Contour barrels. These are currently being used by both the US Army Marksmanship & S Marine Corps Combat Shooting Teams.

Modern Sporter
