Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan

That muzzle brake/thread protector/balanced weight is my biggest complaint with the Ruger Guide gun, and now with the re-released Alaskan models. Makes me happy I was able to find an older Alaskan model when I purchased mine.

Add the African model to that too. I'm glad my 6.5x55 doesn't have that zit.

What is wrong with the stock?

These look like nice guns. I always liked the look of the big bore ones they used to make.

Hogue stocks are heavy, clunky pigs... IMO at least... I vastly prefer the standard Ruger synthetic with a stiffened forend over the Hogue... ideally a McMillan... Wildcat's coming soon...

I will be getting a Wildcat for my 375 Ruger the second they come out :)

funny i really like the first version made for the lefties with a nice laminated stock and stainless with no cap or brake at the end. never felt a need for a mcwoody especially at those today price.

never like the hogue stock but seems they soak up well the recoil but i cant say the recoil of a 375 ruger is that bad.

Ruger needs to bring this out in the old style boat paddle stock that they used to use and they would sell like hot cakes. That Hogue stock sucks ball$.

I'd take a walnut stock over a boat paddle any day. Ruger has put some real nice wood on some of their rifles.

I hate the idea that you have to wear ear protection while hunting.
This 20" barrel with brake will make the mountain shaking. Who wants to be your hunting partner to suffer this?

After about a year i put a muzzle brake on my 375 rum. Checking zero, i walked up to the target, then shot off the tailgate without putting my left hearing protection back. Sound amplified in the canopy and ........ooooooowwwww. Did not hear well for three days, sure i did some permanent damage .

Those boat paddle stock are nicer than the Hogues and other tupperware deals, but are quite small on the butt end and the comb is narrow. I'd think it might be a bit cruel to shoot on a 375 or other magnum.

I'd except that challenge as it couldn't be any worse that a 19" 458WM Ruger 77 tang safety I had a while back running 525gr GC hard cast at close to 2100fps. They would rattle the pumpkin!!

The boat paddle stocks were damn tough but didn’t rally soak up recoil well and didn’t fit well for many people. I would still prefer one over laminate and maybe the Hogue though.

The Boat Paddle stocks are tough and the ergonomics are excellent for most people and transmits the recoil straight back into your shoulder... their downfall with regard to recoil is the hard rubber recoil pads that oxidize and harden over time. Personally, I like my rifles in factory original configuration, so I just put up with a little more felt recoil... but if you are recoil sensitive and not as anal about aftermarket parts, a good shock absorbing pad will cure that deficiency.

I'd have to agree here, I've had just about every stock on my rugers, and although the zytel is super tough I didn't find in comfortable to shoot. The pistol grip is on the small side, I find myself usually just tucking my pinky finger under the grip. The but pad is small and hard, and the sling loops rattle, unless you have a sling attached, which I don't like to have unless I'm dragging my game back to camp.
The Hogue is Ok, I had the full aluminum bedding block in mine so it's heavy at 3lbs and I don't like the wide forend on it for a hunting rifle. The plus is the pistol grip is comfortable and my rifle shot great with it.
The bell and Carlson is Ok too, I also found the pistol grip a bit smallish and I believe I have average size hands. The fit and finish may not be the greatest but it's still quite useable.
I've never had a problem with the factory laminates, other than they could be a bit heavy.
However, I did just get a McMillan and... WOW, what a nice comfortable stock. And at 1.5lbs not to heavy.
If I hadn't already bought the McMillan I would have definitely waited for the wild cat though, if only I woulda known it was on the way!
