well im going out for a drive tonight figured id throw my 20 gauge in the truck since wabbits are open, any good recipies, and is skinning them just like coyotes or do you open the stomach, tips please, ive only shot a few rabbits before and had other people skin them, thanks.

There is a thread on here with pics on a neat wabbit skinning technique, can't remember the name of the poster, I'll see if I can find it.

Myself, I pull out the front legs, tear the skin off by the back and thenspread the legs (either with a board and nails or a friend) and gut him.

try slow roasting your rabbit at 275Farenheit in a pan with onions water and 1/4 cup of butter for 1.5 hrs. turn it over every 20 minutes. sprinkle cajun seasoning on it just before you eat it.

or cut into chunks and fry in butter with garlic salt and serve on a bed of fancy rice.

or just shove a stick in it and cook it over the firepit........

Yep, slow cooking is the ticket. Do it right and the meat falls off the bones.......

Make a slit in the hide on the middle of th back . Insert your fingers and pull the hide toward the head and tail. After the skin is pulled down his legs like socks, cut off the feet/hide. Filet the backstraps and cut the legs off.

Young rabbits the leg bones snap easily, old rabbits are going to be tougher.
Slow cooking works good for the older ones, although I 'm not sure 175F will cook them. 250-275 will work though. 175 may have been a typo.

I like a pressure cooker. Then they are all tender in about 20 minutes.
Shake pieces in flour and seasoning. Brown in a pressure cooker with a little oil. Add a can of mushroom soup, water to cover. Cook for 12-14 minutes . Serve with rice, broad noodles, new potoes, mashed.

Or add your veggies to the rabbit before you cook it. Add a can of beer and enough liquid to cover. when it's done serve with fresh biscuits.

Or cook rabbit, pull meat from bones and put in a pie with some diced veggies.

the best way for rabbit...

Either rolled in flour that has been primed with pepper, salt, and some cagun or sraek spice and real hot oil quick fry or....

Stew, the main thing I find with rabbit stew is that you really want to add at least two parsnip, I make a crust on mine, if any of you are familiar, in the biggest iron stew pot (dutch oven) you can find, (Nan had one that only Pop could lift outta the oven:D)

I know a lot of you use sortening on the Irons, but fat back is the best cure there is on a good iron. In fact, I encourage you to get bit of fatback and do your rabbit in flour and then fry in the fat back, I promise you'll love it.

should you want to give it a go, PM me and I'll tell ya how to do the Fatback.

It also a life saver in the woods as opposed to bringing butter or oil.

Jeezez I loves fat back. Lights a mean fire too.
