I took my new 454 raging bull to the range today (thanks Iron Duke :) ), and while I know it can shoot 45 colt, someone told me it could shoot 45 acp with half moon clips. Is this true? That could save me some serious coin.

Thanks in advance :D

I think the cylinder would need to be cut for the clips. Accuracy will suffer as the bore diameter is smaller for .45ACP. If you get into reloading, the price of ammo drops considerably.

There will be no cutting of my big-bored beauty :)

if you must, there's no reason why you can't take 45 acp loads and stuff them into 45 colt cases- seems kind of silly, though- i just think it would be easier to "soft load" 45 colt- that would also save you some serious coin- i've found my 200 grain slugs and my 250's( both lead) go for the same buck, ( it's a few less by weight)so it's only the powder you would be saving on- the cases of course, are re-used, so 1000 will last you a lifetime with target loads-

I like that idea, but I don't have room to reload in my place or i would. I was just at a gunshow, and I got 50 rounds of win. jhp 454 for $24!

That will last me at least 2 minutes :)

Please have a look down the throat of your cylinder. Is the barrel end of the cylinder bore tapered, or is there a square cut edge?

Freedom Arms used to cut the cylinder square. It worked fine with .454 length brass, but would build up lead and brass if shorter .45 Colt brass was used.

$24 for 50 454:eek:?? Did u ever get a deal.. Thats less than half retail. Not uncommon to see 20pk of Win or Hornady going for $24-$30..Go buy a lottery ticket when u get a chance...oh and re 45acp thru your 454:confused:? No way..You'll spend more fixing/modifying the gun than you will buying ammo... 45ACP way to sloppy down the tube for any kind of accuracy at all. If you're worried about cost you shuld have bought something smaller than a 454:slap:.
They are a ton of fun and the folks shooting beside you will be most annoyed at the concussion:evil:..
Cheers
dB:)
