SL8 to G36K mod... a bad day for gopher-dom

After a year of hunting for parts its another addition to the stable. Best part is being non restricted it can go camping, reach out and touch the parasitic infestation at the farm or, well, go virtually anywhere, with no hassles. Sometimes I just love Canada!

oh... definately converted. It was based on an SL8-5. A real G36 has a 2 piece handle/folding stock and about a 1.5" less length of pull and most importantly restricted. I'll take the clone if it means unrestricted access. Cost wise wasn't a whole lot different though. Ended up being about $3900 as it sits now, but that's with $900 optic/mount.

gophers don't seem to mind though...
 
nice! but just because it's non-restricted doesnt mean you wont get hassled. People will think you're about to start WW3 and call the cops and then you'll have to bust out your certificate at gun point lol. I mean i'm 1/2 expecting that going plinking in the woods with my Krinker and that’s just a stupid 22.

People think you're going to start WW3 with any firearm. It doesn't matter what you're holding when they see you, they're just that arrogantly stupid.

Looking good !

Nice looking rig, looks something like the SL-8 I sold on here, but if the ground hawgs are farther out than 100 M ,,, unless they are BIG ones they should be safe. Mine shot ok and was close but never under an inch, tried loads for close to a year. It shot ok but nothing like my AR or my bolt .220 swift but I found it great for entertaining friends when they came up, the SL-8 was the first one they reached for.

That looks great! Can i ask where you picked up your magazines? I would like to have a couple 5/20 rounders without going to the AR mag convertion.

I picked them up here off CGN about 6 months ago. I had seen some quite recently for sale in the parts for sale section, at a decent price as I recall. Be aware that they are likely pricer than you would imagine, that's HK for you.

Using AR mags, which are plentiful and reliable, is not a bad option though. As an AR owner I considered it as I have a whack of these mags as well. I kind of like the clear look of the G36 and SIG mags where you'd have a visual confirmation of the loading, if you could load more than 5 legally of course. Plus variety is the spice of life I guess. With AR mags there is also the benefit of being able to load the magazine with 10 rounds if you use the RRA mags(built for AR type pistols). Whatever floats your boat the old man used to say.

For me thats half the fun. Kind of like model building when I was a kid, just a wallet-load more expensive. In my mind its why AR's are so popular, you can individualize them to the extreme.

I think the next project is going to be something long range. 338 Lapua, maybe a .50. I have some investigating to do first. Always starts with the research eh?

I know exactly what you mean. I had a TP22 (looks like an AR but in 22cal) in the back of the jeep a dozen or so years ago when you could do that kind of thing. Went through a check stop on the way to a farm to plink and this obvious first year constable, all of 20-21 years old, physically pooped himself (well, he stress-farted but I likes the ways I tells it more better, eh?) when he saw it. Probably thought it was the end. Took a good minute or so for him to calm down and accept the reality of the situation and that all was well. I'm sure hes a good man but not much of a poker face.

A quick question. I had to make a tool to pull the barrel in able to turn the thread for the flash hider. Seeing as the SL8-G36 is a modular model if a individual was to obtain a K or C length barrel and forearm assembly they would by law have to register it as a restricted weapon. Does anyone know if there is provision for multi status for a rifle eg. can be unrestricted in SL8 form with provisions to change the furniture occasionally and run a K of C format for a while? My feeling is once the status changes it would be hell to get it reversed, probably for good reasons I imagine.
