Where are the Euro cal shooters out there?

I'm running a verney-carron express rifle in 9.3x74r.

That is one of the cooler guns I have seen in a long time!

I acquired a 6.5x55 the other day and am just starting to get handloads worked up. Now if only I could find some scope rings for the rifle...

For your 7x64, can you advise what twist you have and what weight or bullet type you recommend? All my factory stuff comes in a 173grain or 175

The 7x64 is usually made with a fast twist, normal for the heavy bullets commonly used in the cartridge. My BRNO twist rate is 1:8.75. I believe the Mannlicher is 1:8.6 Sako is slower at 1:10. I found them all to shoot 160-175 grain bullets best, except an odd RWS load with the 123 gr cone point. The cartridge is made for a standard chamber with a long throat and a fast twist barrel, to accommodate the long heavy bullets that European hunters prefer. ( me too) If I was to pick one load for the 7x64, i would choose 16o gr Nosler Partition or Accubond and IMR 4831 powder for a load that gives a muzzle velocity of 2850 fps. But the 175 grain loads are excellent, except for the Remington, it is crap in every rifle I have
shot it in.

Thanks LW

I have found the 6.5x55 looks fairly easy to buy over the counter. For the other stuff, do you guys load your own?

Any 7x64 or 7x65R users other than Hoyt?

Yea, I too have A 7*65R in my Drilling.
I also have Weatherby Mark 5 European model in 8*68 Claw mounts for sale and also a Mauser 66 in 9.3 * 64 with Claw Mounts and Swarovski Scope for sale.

Also have 9.3*64 and 7*65R empties for sale if someone needs some.

Cheers

Dogies! There are some sweet cartridges out and about, that is for sure.

I own, but don’t necessarily shoot them all - 6.5 Carcano, 6.5x55, 7x57, 7.62x25, 7.62x39, 7.62x54r, 7.63 Arg, 8x57, .303 British.

I had a 7.35 Carcano, but one of the young whippersnapper collectors from down east bilked me out of it! :p. I have one 6,5x55 from H4831, and a few from Buffdog. These are special to me. I bought the one from H4831 in person out on a back road at Salmon Arm, after I softened him up with his favorite McDonald’s chicken burger. He’ll be reading this thread from his spot at the big shooting range, so I’ll be nice!

7.62x39? How dare you try to sneak your Asian filth into this thread.

Are you for real?
7.62x39 was first manufactured in Ulyanovsk, and last time i checked Ulyanovsk was part of Europe.
Anyways i shoot the following European cartridges.
6.5x55 probably my all time favorite
7x57
7.5x55
7.62x39 (European)
7.62×54mmR also (European)
303 British
8x57
9.3x62
And .375 H&H

:) Interesting and informative as to what's out there calibre wise, with a European 'background'. Don't know how I missed it, ;) until now. My selection number pales somewhat by comparison to what others out there have in that grouping.
- 7x57
- 7x57R
- 7x61 S&H
- 308 Norma Magnum
- 303 Br.
- 358 Norma Magnum
- 9.3x62
- 375 H&H

do not think it is european related ... released by norma and schults and larsen but created by americans... a very good cartridge anyway ...

You may well be correct Phil, as far as the initial development is concerned. Here, I was basically going by who brought the calibre to a commercial level of market availability. There were three calibres, or so I've been informed, that were brought to market availability that were a the result of a co-operative effort between Norma and Schultz & Larsen. They were the;
