So I purchase an RCBS kinetic bullet puller from WSS - the description says it will work on all .22 - .45 centerfire cartridges. It works fine for everything EXCEPT my WSM! When I put a wsm case in the chuck it makes the chuck too big around to screw the cap on. Anybody else experience this? Anyone know if there is a work around for this problem? I called WSS and they said they have never heard of this being an issue before?

Actually, I don't know why anyone would bother with their little flimsy "universal" shellholder. I've just been using my reloading shellholder for years and it works better than the factory original.

I agree that the cartridge rattles a bit doing it this way, no matter how hard you tighten it, but it doesn't affect anything.

Personally, I got frustrated with that whole system and now use the RCBS collet puller instead. It's quieter and offers more control.

Those kinetic suck. 1st puller I had was one of those. It was hard to use and finally broke.... NEVER AGAIN!

I then borrowed an RCBS collet set up to use while I tried to find something to replace the hammer thingy. I ended up buying a Hornady collet puller and am very pleased with it overall. It works better than the RCBS collet and light years better than the hammering method. It is faster & leaves no marks on the bullets and is quite easy to use once you have it set up properly

I highly recommend the Hornady job!

I threw out that stupid chuck the first day I owned my Inertia puller and have used the proper shellholder ever since. Like SC, I now use the collet type pullers except for Pistol Wadcutters that are seated flush or close to flush. Then the inertia puller is the only solution. Regards, Eagleye.

bullet pullers

just like eagleye i chucked that little holder that came with the "hammer" and have only use my shell holders...i have wore out two and i am now working on #3 but i have salvaged a lot of componets from surplus ammo or others screwups with them and will not go to anything else...enjoy:wave:

Though here I am using the same as was supplied since way back in late 70s though did replace a failing O ring. Yes used it a lot, but then I am a h/gun reloader of anything from 9mm & up to 45ACP.

Is that the Cam-Lock puller? Looks quite a bit faster than the RCBS (which I have) and would be much easier to use on my Lee Turret press.

Other than the noise .... how can the collet pullers be better than the kinetic pullers? With the 'hammer' method nothing ever touches the bullet and there is a nice peice of foam at the bottom where it lands to protect the nose when it seperates from the brass. I have not used a collet puller so I may be missing something but since the collet needs to grip the bullet wouldn't there be a good chance of marking it up?

Bullet puller

Yes, I had the same problem, I purchsed the magnum chuck but after that my WSM brass got stuck inside the hammer, the inside tapers, I had to open the inside of the hammer with one inch, masonary drill bit, after that it worked without getting stuck.
