So I recently bought a used S&W M&P 9mm original from a reputable store. I had it apart at home to familiarize myself and noticed the recoil guide spring has blue on 1/3 of it. Every reference I have seen, the blue part goes toward the front of the gun. With mine, it is toward chamber at the back. Like the spring and inner rod was taken apart and put back together backward. Does it matter? At first I thought it might but looking closer it seems the oriantation is the same as far as the lay of the coils. Making sure here. Thanks in advance.

My Gen 1 had the blue paint at the back of the spring.... after about 5,000 rounds..... It was originally all blue. The coloring wears off where the front as that is where the spring contacts the slide during operation. over time the finish falls away.

As a side note, if it bothers you, a replacement was $6.95 from Murray Charlton Ent. (they are no longer the S&W warranty center so who knows if that is still the current pricing) but S&W recommends replacement of the recoil spring every 50,000 rounds....

I have 2 M&P's.
The standard M&P with a replacement spring has the blue to the front, and an M&P Pro 5" with the stock spring that has it to the rear.
I don't think it matters one bit though.
