So I was planning on buying a Marlin 795 in the coming days, and while looking for the best price locally I noticed the Rossi RS22 for $30-40 cheaper.

Has anyone used one of these? Reviews online are pretty good, they use Mossberg pattern mags so you can get 25rd mags for it, it has a last bolt hold open (bolt drops when you remove the mag) and the thing that really caught my attention is the fiber optic sights it comes with (stock looks decent too, but that's hard to really judge without handling)

Does anyone know if the Marlin 795 drops the bolt when you remove the magazine after the last shot?

One thing that has me leaning towards the Marlin is their reputation for top-notch accuracy, and the fact I can get a Tech Sight peep for it.

Is there any aftermarket support for the Rossi? Anyone ever get warranty work on a Rossi (any Rossi)? How painful was that?

Any other points you feel like making about either rifle in question?

Thanks!

Shop the Rossi, I've seen them for $150...

I'm going shooting on Sunday with a group of friends, was hoping to pick up whatever I settle on on Friday or Saturday, hence why I was checking local prices for the 795 in the first place.

Have you actually used (or even handled) the Rossi? Or just seen em cheap? I might pick up a Marlin this weekend and buy the Rossi online if I can find one for that price...

Flaherty's had them for $147, but out of stock.
They are both made by CBC in Brazil, very similar guns, either one would be fine I'm sure.

Bought a used 795 on the EE. Too bad it won't arrive before the weekend but oh well, the price was right.

Still going to have to get my hands on the Rossi, depending on how I like its feel I might still get one.

The Rossi looks a little beefier then the Mossy, would probably be a decent gun.

I know a guy with a mossy plinkster and it did not envoke confidence. The high cap mag he had in particular was pretty awful, but it wasn't reliable with the regular mag either. They (the high cap mags) are more expensive for the mossy/Rossi vs the Marlin too...

Now I need to find a source for tech sights for my new toy...

Not that it matters, but I didn't even know Rossi made a semi auto 22. lol The Marlin semi autos (60 and 795) have had what...something like 10+ million made? I think just the model 60 has had over that many, the 795 is the mag fed version.

I think you made the right decision getting the Marlin (of those 2), but I'm a bolt gun fan primarily. :)

Haven't handled the Rosdi, but just a quick note on the "banana mags" of the Marlin 795: whatever Promag's reputation regarding its other products, they hit it out of the ballpark with their Marlin 795 "banana mags"....

So you are saying the mags are actually decent? I've seen mixed reviews online about em, they seem to be decent, not amazing but not total garbage and varies from mag to mag...

Know anyone with one of the drums? I'm not buying one anytime soon but at some point I'd like one if they work decently just for the novelty of it.

Out of 10 purchased, 9 ran flawlessly, though 1 did need quite a bit of fidgeting to properly "seat"....

Note, though, that they are plastic/polymer "lipped", FWIW... :yingyang:

Haven't had any experience with the drum, though, but the 25-round Promags for the Marlin 795 truly wowed me...

Good to hear. I'll be buying two in short order.
