How and when did you get your first DQ?

Well, it finally happened.
After 6 years of TAC Rifle and IDPA as a competitor and R/SO, it happened today.
One of my students who had been struggling ran a 12 round stage clean in under 11.5s. His last reload was just magic. I was not going to let him beat me. In front of our Club President and several Board members, I broke 90 due to my speed. There is no excuse. Even if I had not broken 90, my friend still beat me in raw time. The difference is I got to sit the rest of the day out.

On this day, I got to see my student set personal goals, made Marksman for the first time and another good friend make Master, the first in our Club history. For the first time, we met for beers after. Ironman0731 and jimbo14 presented me with my “DQ” present.

As much as I hated to lose, I cannot say how much I enjoyed today and the friends in this sport I have made.
I won’t have changed a thing today. Thank you guys.

And like a true gentleman, you stayed for the remainder of the day, helped with everything, coached, mentored and showed us all how to respond when the inevitable happens. You showed the true spirit of a competitor today Still alive, held your head high and continued to lead by example, it's a privilege to shoot with and learn from you bud,,,and I'm sure we will both hear about this for some time to come :)

Never been DQ'd, but I could see a day...

Never understood how guys get all bent out of shape when it happens, you did it, you own it...

Awesome post OP. Humble & owned it, don't repeat. Move on.

Cheers

2 years ago WBAS Championships, I had reloaded my rifle ammo on a friends new progressive press and for whatever reason it didn't throw enough powder. Consequently I was under power factor for my rifle and DQ'd for scoring purposes as soon as they got around to testing my ammo about halfway through the match. Then, in some misguided attempt to enjoy myself for the rest of the day, I decided to speed up and see how fast I could go. This resulted in me putting my pistol down loaded. Stage DQ, shot the rest of the match carefully for fun. Learned my lesson and last year had good ammo that I chronographed beforehand and took my time shooting, took home WBAS Traditional Champ at the Nationals.

Thanks guys.
It was actually edgy who had to DQ me. He was mortified! So much thanks for the kind words buddy! You had a job to do and, friendship aside, had to do it. I commend you!

In the end, it’s a game. It’s the memories that linger. Your first DQ is much more memorable than a X place finish. And I get ice cream!

Never want to DQ your mentor lol, but,,, you did get ice cream!!
You are absolutely right though,, you will never forget that first DQ :)

I've been very close to breaking 90 twice, and one time was an identical situation to yours.

You're a good man, Still alive. Much respect.

Only two types of shooters, those that have, and those that will:). Welcome to the Cool Kid Club! You'll never know how fast you can be unless you push it!

My first was bumping the safety off my Shadow when I placed it on the dump table. From that one, I learned to size up the distance between the last array and the pistol dump box; if there's time, I ditch all the ammo in the gun before trundling on my merry, or take a literal half second to slow the heck down when dumping a Shadow.

Positive thoughts, Still Alive, positive thoughts!

Got my 1st DQ at the 2017 RedNeck 3Gun. Stage started with rifle, put it into a dump barrel, then proceed down range with pistol. Had a brain fart and put my rifle down on the pistol table and proceeded down range. With the rifle barrel pointing right at me !!! Stupid mistake, but sure learned my lesson. Funny things happen to a guys brain as soon as the timer goes "BEEP".

110%.
Imagine if those crosswalk beepers for the sight impaired made a timer "BEEP"? Competitive shooters would be grinding gears, trying to start a running car, using their wipers on a sunny day.....I think it would be a great prank:).

Winter 3 gun match.
Oiled all my guns before match because it was snowing.
Running down range with Rifle in my hands. HG popped out of my holster.

Note to self.
Check holster tension after you oil your guns.
I use Safariland ALS holsters now.

Think it was 2007, had to throw a bag of "gold" into a suitcase, didn't touch the gun, but my foot hitting the ground had enough force for the gun to jump outta my race holster. I could hear the sand grating inside as the RO cleared it.... Lock your holsters people
