specifically, if i were to re barrel a Tikka from x62mm mauser into a standard Cartridge calibre , can the Bolt be used as it or does it need modifiying?

lets talk 30-06 parent cases and also 308 parent cases.

id 90% go a 30 Cal or perhaps a federal

They both use the .473 bolt face, and going from 9.3X62 to .30/06 should cause no problems as both are long action cartridges with similar bodies and the same follower, but going down to the short action .308 family may (or may not) create feeding issues... but would certainly allow the use of long bullets seated out. The bigger question is why would you butcher a 9.3X62 for a standard cartridge? You would be way further ahead selling the 9.3X62 as a stock factory rifle and buying a .308 or .30/06.

mate- im hearin ya.
they just arnt moving down here, this way i can kind of keep te 9.3 barrel on the side, an utilise my T3...
just mostly curous about the bolt face for in case-- incase a barrel pops up :D

i thought there might of been differences which didnt alow it.!

thanks hoyt

Shouldn’t have any issues with the standard bolt face short action cartridges feeding in the tikka as they use the same action for both lengths. Lots of people use the full length mag and bolt stop with short action cartridges to get more OAL without issue. If you had a real hard on you could get a new mag and short action bolt stop and bobs your uncle.

What are you thinking of rebarreling to?

I wouldn’t worry about butchery it’s a dime a dozen tikka, not an original oberndorf sporter.

I am not worried about the rifle, but the expense does not make sense... not when you could flip it and come close to breaking even... not hard to find a T3 in .30/06 at a good price... or alternatively, rebarrel to something unique that you can't find on every rack in every store.

Wont be any feeding issues with a long action tikka in a short action round. I run one in 7mm-08 with the 30-06 mag and it sure works good for the long 180gr bullets

Is the follower the same, or is it contoured to the shorter round?

I have a 30-06 and 243 Win barrel for a Tikka T3. These are new take offs, if your interested.

Hi mate- Unfortunatly im a black sheep on this Forum... Im an Aussie from Australia, currently hunting the NZ alps though.

Its not really worth the hassle for importing :)

Thanks though- i appreciate that!

The newer ones don't have enough meat to grind away. Had to buy a new bolt stop

The short action mag has a spacer in it everything else is the same

this is what i did when i changed the lenght of magazine for my varmint 243 win in a ctr stock. new long bolt stop and i can use the lenght of longer magazine. not a big deal adn atl east you can do it yourself.
