.40 S&W falling out of favor?

Arguing over which caliber does the most to whom always seems to me to be a mindless exercise given we all have our favourites. I have a close friend in California who spent his career in law enforcement. He attended hundreds of autopsies over the course of his career where firearms were involved. Now in retirement he carries a CZ 75B in 40 cal. when out and about. Might be an indication of the values of the .40cal.

I may move off my GP-100 in .357Mag for the new GP-100 in 10MM for my Wilderness Carry. I may regret just tossing to large buckets of 40 cal brass into my recycle barrel given I can practice with 40 cal in that gun.

For playing the games you use, for the most part, what best fits the Division you are shooting in or the sport you support.

If you're gonna move to a 10mm for your wilderness carry wouldn't it make sense to go glock for the extra capacity?

No where I live if six won't do it it won't matter much. The GP100 platform really works for me. I carry a 12 gauge Mossberg as a primary. I never have shot the Glock well, and really dislike the grip angle along with the hump at the bottom of the grip. A very good pistol, just not for me. Too, the slide is not stainless and it rains a lot here.

Nope I still have about 1K of cases laying around here. Enough for a lifetime of shooting I suspect. I don;t shoot my 40's very often. Now if I do pick up the GP-100 in 10MM that will change a lot.

I've been tempted by that GP 10mm as well. Was having trouble seeing the point in 10mm in large revolvers (not to say I could not appreciate a 610). It makes more sense in a medium frame.

The Redhawk 10mm actually made me laugh when it was announced. Absolute overkill. The GP-100 is very tempting but damn, already bought two revolvers this week and I have a half dozen NR semis to pick up first.
 
The Calgary Police have recently switched to 9mm Glock 17’s from their Glock 22’s. Personally I don’t mind the recoil from .40 S&W the slightest, but then again I twist pipe wrenches for a living so my arms aren’t made of spaghettini.

Falling? Maybe 2 or 3 years ago. It has fallen out of favour. For our use, get what you want.

Keep in mind 9mm is cheaper and more widely available especially in bulk options.

I agree with the hump thing...had a similar issue with the ppx..havn’t ever noticed any issues with grip angle..all feel pretty natural at any angle...I know it’s a feel thing..Hk usp grips never fit me well...
 
With the various sales, it is cheaper to buy new 9mm than to reload. I reload anyway, because I like doing it. Also for everything else except .22. I can also make up specials like 190 gr 357 for my carbine.
Go to the range, make lots of empty brass, collect then reload and begin again.

You can still reload for much cheaper than any sale price anywhere. When it gets under $100/1000 then I'd agree.

Yup, reloading and casting are also among my hobbies. Because I like crafting my own heads and loading my own ammo. Did I mention I was also cheap?

This, seems to be the norm as most people seem to be recoil sensitive and find the 40 too snappy. I have several 9's and they are great, BUT, I love my 40 ! Even my wife who is 5'2 and very wimpy loves the 40. To each their own !!
