A7 300wm barrel

Thinking about buying the A7 in 300wm. The barrel is only 24.5'' wich i find the max i want to carry for a hunting rifle but i hear the magnum need at least 26'' barrel to burn powder completely. Thought on this? I was also interested by a Kimber but barrels are 26'' and its blind box. Mags are actually handy here for moose hunting since we jump off/on atv/truck often...

Two more inches of barrel of may get you about 50-60 fps gain. They say 25-30 fps per inch. I don't know how accurate this is. But under normal hunting conditions lets say to no more than 500 yds, it will do all you will need. Even out farther than 500 yds is no problem once you got your drops figured out. What is a few more clicks of elevation? IF you like the gun I wouldn't let 2" of barrel be the deciding factor. In the end it will make no difference.

Right and it won't need to shoot past 400 ish yards. My question could be reformulated to if i get a 300wm with 24.5 barrel might as well get a 30-06 as they may perform similar since the 24.5 won't burn all the powder of the 300wm
 
The powder will be burned.
A 24" barrel is perfect for a magnum chambering in a hunting rifle. The a7 is usually a good shooter. The single stack plastic mag may limit your OALs however. Good trigger on these too.

Or Find a Tikka T3 in 300 WMag for less money - its just as good in my HUMBLE opinion ! lol RJ
 
I had an A7 in 300 sold it to get a 338, I still have one in 270, very nice rifles, I also have a couple of Tikkas and I prefer the A7s. My 270 is a Rough Tech but I got rid of the fiberglass stock and got a Boyd's, I prefer the soft touch stock over the rough tech. I used Talley rings on both rifles and they both shot sub moa. I have heard of A7s having the Sako ejection issue [spent cartridge hitting scope on ejection] but I have not seen it myself and I have owned three.
 
Your 24.5" 300 Win Mag will work just fine, and will still beat a 30-06 by a fair margin. I have 2 308 Norma Mags with 24"
barrels and 2 with 26" barrels. The difference with max loads is about 65 fps. with 180 grain bullets. The 30-06 will make about 2850
in a 24" barrel, the 300 about 3050 or a bit more, so the 300 has a comfortable margin, even in a 24" tube. Keep in mind that the
26" will be somewhat more unwieldy, and adds a few ounces to the package. Dave.

Went to the store to see it and i like the Roughtech pro stock . Paint is soso but i like how rigid/grippy it is.

Plus its bedded!
 
300wm 180gr
95% of powder consumed by 14" of bore travel of the bullet (RL22), 8" (IMR 4831), 18" (H4831), 10" (RL26)

It's getting burnt
