Can’t get Stag-10 to work (help!)

Hello there fellers.

Took factory Stag-10 to the range the other day, and could not get it to feed or fire. I though: my bad, I did not oil thw gun before first use. So I oiled the crevasses in the BGC and took it again to the range today. Took me several minutes to fire 15 shots.

Problems: bolt will only close 80%, most of the times. Did not have any stovepipes or failures to feed this time around, but the bolt is not fully there.

What am I doimg wrong?

Notes: I am unfamiliar with the AR platform; had only owned an AK as a gas gun (so be kind, please). Also: this is a factory Stag-10, not a build.

I put a box of lead tipped Winchester through mine without issues, but I’ve read that lead tipped bullits can cause feeding issues in a semi.
But I’m not sure.
Oil her up good and wet and try a box of hornady polymer tipped
 
1) When you shoot one round does it lock back on the last round ( only load one in the the mag)? If no, you most likely have a gas issue
Check the gas key
Check the gas block that it is orientated correctly

2) have you tired a different mag? It could be the mag

3) double check the buffer body and spring, make sure there are no obstructions
 
I heard some of the stags coming with loose or improperly aligned gas blocks.

When you are using the charging handle, are you letting it slam home or are you riding it?
 
Similar problems with a brand new Stag 10S.

First time to the range yesterday, and had a stoppage every single round; sometimes no round cycled and sometimes half cycled and jammed by bolt on a 45 degree angle.

Lots of people also telling me it's the gas port as well, which is horrible on a gun this expensive.

I'm in for almost $2500 after tax, and a gun for 1/5 that should work flawlessly out of the box without further work.

I tried two different brand new XCR mags, and the same problems with both. All bulk Federal 7.62 FMJ ammo.

Stupidly I did not bring the OEM mag to the range, but next time I go I'll bring multiple different mags and ammos.

If it continues to not work (ie, gun's fault and not mag or ammo), I don't even want Stag or Arms East to work on it, I just want my money back.

If Stag can't get basic details like a gas block work, I don't want to think about how many other details they got wrong.

I paid a similar amount for my Daniel Defense Mk18, and that gun has ran exactly like it's supposed to.
 
First, always learn how to fully detail strip, clean, and properly lube ANY new rifle. Packing oil is not a lube and will create all kinds of problems.
I remember a guy on her that blew up his Nork AR15 on the first shot because he took it out of the box and went shooting without any inspection of the rifle.
Nork AR's at the time had oily patches shoved in the chamber and muzzle for corrosion protection.
Give the Stag a full tear down, everything except stuff that's roll pinned. Disassemble, clean, and lube the BCG and everything else that moves. It doesn't need to be dripping wet, but oiled and wiped. Try it again and if there are problems it will be much easier to diagnose.

Agree with above. If that doesn’t solve your problem my quests is that your gas block has come loose and misaligned with the port. So the question is how to fix it. Maybe try to fi. Yourself or have a local gunsmith take a look. If you bought from Arms East send it back and warranty will fix it up. If bought from I run guns send it back to them.

I know it is frustrating but do t despair. My Stag had loose screws and so I was able to locktite the gas block retention set screws before firing. It is a very tight action that needs to break in to work perfectly. Mine will cycle all brass and even cheap Norinco 308 steel. Add. I really enjoy mine, more accurate than me and way more fun then too.

Keep us posted on this, and I totally agree with you.
 
Another +1 for something with the gas block. Crappy that it might be the case on a factory gun. Not likely hard to fix if you've got the tools, but you shouldn't have to on a new gun.
 
I’ve had the same issue with my stag 10.
Bought it if of EE, took it to the indoor range.
Was shooting federal lake city factory ammo.
NO GO
Lots of failure to feeds
Stove pipes
Failure to eject

Took it home; jumped on the net did some reading...after all the research I checked the gas block it was fine.
It almost feels like the buffer spring is too heavy....
I dunno, after paying $2000 for a semi auto it should be able to fire .308 & 7.62 NATO without issue.
