Official 2019 Wild Turkey Thread

I counted 155 turkeys while out on a patrol today between London and Windsor. 18 of those, strutting Toms. Mostly groups of 5-10 birds. One big group of 30 birds. And one lonely Tom strutting his stuff in a wide open field without another bird in sight for miles lol. Maybe it’s the turkey version of talking yourself up in the bathroom mirror before that first date.

A lot of the bush lots are still really flooded, and no turkeys near those areas. Any place with a little stream or marshy area running through it is likely flooded. If you’ve got a couple properties to choose from this season, I’d pick the highest and driest place for opening day.
 
Believe it or not ...the Tom I took at that distance...only had like 15 pellets ...I got lucky cause two hit the neck
It went down and did the funky chicken ...or I should say the funky turkey...lol

You can put a bead on a turkey head at 70 yards? You must have some impressive vision.

70 yards? I thought it was 80 yards and 3-4 birds on 3 shots? I also thought you sold your 10g “Browning SP10” :rolleyes:

I guess you decided to buy it back from that store you would visit to go look at it....

breaking clays is great and all, but whats your pattern look like at that range, and what are you odds of ruining meat?

I tend to buy into this type of thinking as well. Besides, even if I was guaranteed success on a long shot like that, what fun would it be to shoot at a bird that far away. The fun is conversing with birds and convincing them to come in close.

My comment in post 92 was a call out to a contradictory BS post....

I also run a scope on my Remington due to eye sight problems. I use an 870 Remington 870. I have been successful every year for the last 12 years.
