Mini Reflex red dot sight on Sig 1911-22?

Hello,

Has anyone ever put a mini reflex red dot sight on their GSG/Sig 1911-22? My eyes aren't the greatest anymore (hard to focus on iron sights) and I tried one on a club members S&W 41. SO MUCH BETTER! So, now I want to put one on my 1911-22, but am having a hard time finding a mounting base that will replace the rear sight and allow me to put on an inexpensive RD sight. There seems to be options in the US, but can't find their equivalents here in Canada. I know GSG sells a bridge to allow scopes/sights to be mounted, but you need a lower rail to use it (and mine doesn't have any rails - an it looks ugly).

I am wondering if 22 lr would cycle the slide? no problem on my 45. my Vortex is very light , so may work O.K.
I used a Burris mount on my 1911, another dealer happen to have one. I don't have a gsg, not sure about their rear cut?
 
I don't think a pot metal slide would hold a dot sight and may not even cycle with the extra weight . A 1911 frame mount should work. I have a conversion not much to work with on that slide . Most peen themselves to death in short order.

The cwa slide has been lightened the proper amount to accommodate for the increased weight of most red dots. That's the only way you will get reliability with a slide mounted red dot on that gun.

The slide of the GSG 1911/Sig 1911 is made of aluminum investment casting and the frame of zinc diecast (https://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=361640).
Having said that the original aluminum GSG 1911 slide is unsuitable for mounting a red dot. Like snooker said it must be a dedicated slide like the ccw one. But that one is really costly.
 
IMO, you have 2 options in order to put a red dot on your pistol.

Buy a different slide that is made for that purpose. I have one on my GSG and it has a built in plate to mount the red dot.
It also has slots on the slide to lighten it so that it will handle the extra weight of a red dot.
However this is a fairly expensive option.

Buy a recover grip for the 1911 . This 2 part grip comes with a built in rail & then you can put on a bridge mount
and have a red dot. As you say, not the sleekest looking setup but it will work and not be that expensive.
 
I had a couple mounts that took the place of the right grip panel I used on 1911's , worked O.K., looked funky, but back in the day ,they where about all these was..
At the price of a GSG conversion unit, might be fun to build one, if you had a small mill would be possible.
