My bolt also broke at the rear where the guide rod travels, returned the rifle to Kodiak and they did a speedy repair. I fashioned a buffer from 1/8" UHMW that sits on the rear plate behind the springs to dampen the bolt on rearward travel.
With the excessive ware caused by the bolt, has convinced me to sell the rifle while they are still in demand, or wait for a new bolt carrier design which will cure the ware issue. At this point in time it will reside in my safe.

I emailed to ask the same question and send pictures of mine showing wear after 200 rounds. They said isn’t was only cosmetic so if I wanted the new bolt and handle I’d have to pay for it when they’re available.
Honestly that disappointed me quite a bit. Considering it’s an obvious issue or they wouldn’t have changed it, you would think they would replace the parts for the rifles they’ve already made.
It’s more than cosmetic...if I could post pics I would
Parts that affect the rifle should not be charged. I love the rifle but admit I wish I would have waited til they worked the bugs out

I'm also disappointed that they are making us pay for the upgrade as the magnet was clearly a design flaw. I wish I has waited too.
 
Yeah not cool, it’s clearly going to effect the rifle down the road. I’d assume it’s cheaper for them to send or a few parts than replace upper receivers when they wear prematurely. Especially since they are so early in the builds. What could they have made by now. 5000?
The more I think about it the more pissed of I am. Maybe if enough of us complain they’ll listen?
Truth is, when any gun manufacturer realizes something like this they fix them right away.
Realistically how much could it cost them. It’s only the handle and the bolt housing as all the internals can be used.

My wk was by far the worst rifle I’ve ever bought. At 150 rounds the gas block basically fell off. Back to kodiak for a new barrel/gas block. 200 rounds later the gas piston snapped in half. Back she went. Sold the rifle when I got it back and almost did a happy dance. A friend who’s serial number was 2 more then mine is going to talk to kodiak about a new upper. There is approx 3500 rounds through his and the charging handle bouncing around has warped the outside of the rifle. The inside looks like a beaver go to it. Neither gun ever had a range session without failures, accuracy was on par with a Sks, trigger was terrible and metal mags sat to low to feed. Even doing a budget MS, or SLR you are way better off.

I dont see that as cosmetic like kodiak is saying.

If your charging handle is sloppy enough to raise edge of the charging handle base outside of the top of pocket in bolt carrier when being fired its going to grab inside of reciever and mark it all up cosmetic wear would be more consistent lighter marking all along sure but??
I like mine but Im under 200 rounds though no fte or ftf with hera mags or mft mags but the non threaded handle in mine is sloppy too I would have zero complaints had mine came with this new setup its suppost to be solid with no signs of the marks inside reciever.

Cant claim its cosmetic wear when the new threaded setup does not do it kodiak seen an issue and changed it As of now they plan on charging for the threaded setup for all of us who do not have it.

I have one with over 1000 rounds through it and it doesn't look like that. My charging handle does wiggle but the magnet holds pretty strong. Regardless of my experience it's evident that some aren't so lucky.

I know they are seeing these posts...it would be nice too hear from them. Maybe someone even saying they should be doing something about it

So has anyone had trouble pushing in the stripping button on the rear? I have wk's, have'nt had time to look at the second one til tonight. The button on the rear does'nt seem to go in far enough to free the upper. Anyone else seen this? EDIT-never mind, it just needed "encouraged' with a mallet.

Unusual wear on the upper receiver of my WK. I just got it, ran it through break in as per manual. Well lubricated and run lightly. No rapid fire. Put 80 rounds through it on say one. Another 50 today and this degree of wear concerns me. Any ideas? Just seems wrong on any rifle.

I’d like to see your picture. You’re going to have to just paste a link to a third party photo service like I did above. Mine is wearing as well.

Agree fully. The handle is clearly a design flaw on early models if it was changed. We should receive the parts free of charge.

Id like to know their reasoning as to why they aren't in agreement.

I had the same issue an called Kodiak about it. They said it was probably a defective back plate and they sent me another. They told me to tap it with a hammer, and it worked. Ilater noticed that it was getting stuck on a birr on the upper inner part of the receiver. I knocked thos out and it helped. Also the guide rod holes in the bolt tend to be on the tight side and with burrs on the front end. Have a look at the too.
