Need some help from expert hunter here.

Please identify these piles of poop, my guess is Black Bear since there's no Grizzlies on Vancouver Island.
The colour looks weird to me, both piles are really fresh, the pale looking one was VERY fresh, like it just came out.

Both were found today, 20 Apr 2019.

Grizzlies do occasionally make it to the island.. but you are right to say they do not live there, usually. It could be Grizzly or it could be black bear. The Black bears on the Island are so big that they are considered a subspecies. "Vancouver Island Black Bear"
They put those ontario bear to shame...lol

true.... I've seen some truly huge black bears on the island, especially around nootka.
wasn't there a grizzly incident near port hardy not too many years ago?

I believe there was. They swim across every once and awhile.. once they are spotted the CO hunt them down.. funny how the tree huggers never hear a word of that... Lol

Although all Grizzly Bears are Brown Bears, not all Brown Bears are Grizzly Bears. Being on Vancouver Island it is far more likely to be a Brown Bear, than a Grizzly Bear.

I've always understood "Brown" bears to a subspecies native to alaska/russia and lattitudes north of that..... inbetween the polar bears and grizzly bears.
That said, I am far from any kind of bear expert but as far as I know there are no "Brown" bears in BC. The subspecies I mean because of course thier are brown colored black bears everywhere in canada.

You know, thats what the CO's in Campbell river said to the band members up in Port Hardy a few years back.
You should google Johnston Straights lots of GB just across that lil strip of water.

I didn't see anything in that article referencing Brown vs Grizzly.

And nothing popped out searching Johnston Straights Grizzlys vs Browns either.

Maybe you could provide reference for me.
