So i am in the market to buy my ultimate moose rifle. Ive been browsing firearm websites for weeks and I still can't make up my mind. I decided to post here maybe some1 can seize exactly what will fit my needs best.

Like I said moose rifle, I want it chambered in something with stopping power like 30-06 or 300wm, I do prefer a non magnum cartridge tho as I dont want to carry a 25'' barrel. In the best world I would run a 20'' or 22''. Semi contour 20'' is a yes yes.
I want something sturdy thats going to last. I hate plastic and the only piece that I would accept is a polymer mag, other than it need a bottom metal and metal shroud etc. Stock wood is fine and if it has to be synthetic I want something rigid with some kind of bedding and strength, for example a simple t3 stock won't cut it. I prefer a detachable magazine as it is fast to be fire ready as I jump off/on atv/truck a lot; we hunt wood road, trails, swamp, bush etc. 100 yards to 400yards nothing really past that.

I do have a weakness for European rifle I do like the CZ a lot, Steyr, Sauer. Sako is a no go (except A7 Roughtech) I did own a 85 in the past and it had ejection issue but I find them overpriced.

I currently own a BNIB CZ557 lux Fullstock in 30-06 but it have a floor plate; I might put the new z5 on it and call it done but before I go that way I wanted to check if there is not a better option out here for me.

Rifle i have in sight atm; Sako A7 Roughtech, Sauer 100 Cherokee, CZ557 LUX SA in 308.

Thanks in advance

You pretty much described a Sauer 100. It's got a nice bedded stock and action, 22 inch barrel, bottom metal, polymer detachable mag, smooth action and they shoot amazing. 30-06/300 win mag is plentiful for what your after.

The Sauer 100 I had was a great rifle. Mine was chambered in 8x57 and had a good season with mine. Only down side for me is that I think the barrel are pressed in and not threaded. Correct me if I'm wrong:confused:

Your current rifle is also a great contender and getting a mag conversion will probably be more practical.

As you never mentioned budget you could consider going custom, or potentially just adding a Mcmillan stock to a stainless Tikka or M70 and calling it quits. Being a newer hunter myself I fell for the magnum marketing and have a 300 that I really should practice more with. A 30-06 would be the largest Calibre I buy in the future, and topped with a 180-200gr tsx will do all you could ask for. Lesser cartridges will do the trick as well so a short action shouldn't be looked over IMO.

Sounds like a Remington 760/7600 would fit that bill nicely and not cost a lot along the way.

If you like the 20 inch barrel take a look at the Tikka T3/T3X Battue in 06 comes with a 20 inch barrel and your choice of wood or synthetic stock

Correct barrel are pressed in not threaded but the bolt actually lock in the barrel no the action so its as good see better than regular equation. Never held a Sauer 100 in my hands i see a lot of XT available but if i buy that rifle i would pick the cherokee 100%. Thing i would like to see off the 100 is the polymer stock and if they are solid and sturdy.

I did ask CZ if i can get a mag conversion for the 557 lux but i think it is not possible for the 30-06, only 308 and 243.

I do own a t3x varmint in 6.5 creedmoor that i use for shooting and deer hunting i wanted to go a lil different for the moose rifle. The varmint is full dressed with MDT chassis and weight 16 pounds!

About budget it between 1000 and 2000 for the rifle only. I plan on putting a Leupold VX-5HD on it.

at that point i will use the cz instead, them tikka mags feel like im grabbing a couple of pringles chip haha

Caliber. If its a "one rifle" then my caliber choices would be 270, 7mag, 30-06, 300wm. Depends on your normal game, and recoil tolerance. You mentioned moose, but......

Get a good bolt action, not a entry level pos.

I don't really care about recoil, the things i don't "like" about magnum is the length of the barrel and the long action.

My sediments exactly. The normal calibers you mentioned can be purchased at any Cdn Tire or Walmart for a very good reason. I have no idea why some recommend weird oddball calibers when the calibers you recommended are pretty much perfect for the game the OP is asking about.
