Anyone have an accurate pet load for this historic cartridge? I'll be reloading the 140gr. Nosler Accubond in the very near future. Good brass was difficult to locate in Canada, however did find a box of new Nosler, but not cheap. Thanks!
Track; I have been shooting the 7x57 for at least 5 decades...one of my all-time favorite chamberings.
Both my present 7x57 rifles are of modern construction, so can be loaded to the potential of the cartridge.
Try the following, approaching 3 grains below and working up.
140 AB, WW or PPU cases, CCI 200 [or BR-2] 51 grains of Reloder 17
140 AB " " " " 55 grains of Reloder 22 [compressed load, but works well]
140 AB " " " " 53 grains of IMR 4831
FWIW, R-P Brass is quite a bit heavier in the web area, and will not accept these charges safely.
Regards, Dave.
That is a very fine rifle you have, in a Classic chambering.
It should accept full loads without flinching.
Obviously, caution prevails.
My 7x57's are a 700 Classic Remington, and a M70 Featherweight Winchester.

For starters what kind of 7x57........modern /98 mauser or rolling block/95 mauser. Win 760 is the only powder I've needed for the 140gr although IMR4350 is a close second.

In my Brno 22f, same as yours but shorter barrel, I have found 160 - 175 gr. bullets are the most accurate. 140's are acceptable, but generally open groups to about 2" / 100 yds. Brno rifles have the usual long throat & fast twist that is actually designed for 175 gr RN. The fastest, flattest shooting bullets are not needed for hunting in the bush anyway, and the heavier ones penetrate better from odd angles. So I have settled on 160's as the best compromise. H4350, standard primers, and enough powder to reach 2600 fps in my 21" barrel.
I have the 21H double trigger long barrel.I should chrony these loads this summer if and when it comes. We are getting a snowstorm as we speak.
Thanks mbogo3! I will consider your loads since our rifles are identical. I'll check-out the gun powder load data web-site and see what their starting loads are, then work-up. Thanks a lot!
