I have an old model (three screw) single six.
It is a wonderful gun to shoot, but there is one problem.
It is in.22WMR only. There is no .22lr cylinder with it. I don't mind this but it get kind of expensive...
How involved/costly is it to have an extra one in .22lr made?

Getting a Ruger or any cylinder made in .22 would be very expensive. Find out the Canadian service depot for Ruger and get a new one fitted. Or check on the EQUIPMENT EXCHANGE on this forum and/or post your wants under EXCHANGE OF PARTS AND BITS. Sometimes the cylinders drop right in and shoot/function good with no fitting and sometimes they don't and need to be fitted by a gunsmith.

I subscribe to another forum (rugerforum dot com) and I'm sure they could offer lots of helpful advice. Depending on the year of your old 3 screw you might have a desirable/collectable gun there.

Check out the classifieds at Ruger Forum or just post a wanted ad there for the .22LR cylinder. You'd be surprised at how fast you can sometimes find stuff there.

The rear sight on my KP89DC broke a while ago, and it was supposed to be replaced under warranty (pistol was only a couple of months old, and the break was probably a freak casting issue). Location Snapshots (Ruger Canadian supplier) told the guys at Reliable (where I buy my guns) that there was a "backorder" on parts from the Ruger factory. After waiting for months on end with no ETA for the part, I got frustrated and bought one off of someone from Ruger Forum. In my frustration, I also called Ruger directly, and they were "surprised" that I was being told this as there is no such thing as "backorder" of parts as they have lots. Ruger said they will sort out the "backorder" issue with the supplier, and promised to expedite a rear sight for me. My new rear sight arrived in the mail yesterday, a couple of weeks after speaking directly with the factory.

I love Rugers, have several of them...but dealing with their Canadian supplier for service has left a sour taste in my mouth. For the .30-06 that I'm buying in the near future, I'm strongly leaning towards Savage instead of the M77 because of this experience.

Back on topic...that's why I'm recommending you either contact Ruger directly, or the folks at Ruger Forum (probably the cheapest route too) instead of the Canadian supplier.

This thread says Location Snap Shots is a good authorised repair centre.

I can only say from my own experience with them. Like I've said, months on end with no estimate of arrival for my replacement rear sight until I called Ruger personally and had them sort it out. In fact, my packing list that came from Location Snapshot even states on it, "Rear Sight to customer as Ruger request".

Just like anything else, I'm sure that many other people have had positive experiences...but in my case, so far the only experience has been a negative one. I have four Rugers in my safe, and luckily Rugers are not known to have much issues...because I'm not looking forward to getting any service done to them in the future.

Looking back at my original post...I should probably say that the recommendation I gave is what I would personally do again if I was trying to track down a Ruger part. I shouldn't be telling people what to do...they should make up their own minds.

Cheers.
