Looking at buying a BRNO 452 Model 2-E. Made in 1988.

I would say very good to excellent condition.

The seller and I are not sure what price to put on it. He is an elderly gentleman that bought it new in 88.

Posting on here and hoping we get some knowledgeable/similar responses that we can start with.

It would depend on walnut or beech stock, overall condition. I would say $400.00-$700.00. They are great rifles!
 
These were all beech stocked guns sold in the 80s. In excellent condition 450 is a fair price.
maybe the walnut 452 lux is slightly more desirable. But the 16 groove barrel generally made these very accurate.
They do need the yodave trigger job to fix the creep.

I have one of that vintage and it is indeed beech stocked. It's an excellent shooter and I use mine good deal for testing ammo.
I never changed the trigger and don't find it a hindrance but then I learned on Cooey singles and Lee-Enfields.
 
Geezus boys.

Just got home from purchasing this gun before reading on here. He and his wife both in their 90's are off to a nursing home tomorrow so it was a come and get it if you want it now kinda deal.

I paid $150. I met him for the first time today through a neighbour.

Need to make a phone call.
 
Well phone call done.

John the seller is happy with $150 and he asked if I am happy with the 452.

Said he probably won't be doing much with another $300 at the age of 94 and that I can pass the rifle along to someone else when I reach that age.

No, some did indeed have Turkish Walnut; and it is not plain either; one of the most figured pieces I have ever seen. This rifle is stapmped 89 on the barrel and receiver, and is a Brno 2-E; six lands of very deep, very strong rifling. The bolt is not broken in yet; and in my estimation, I doubt it has had more than 10 boxes of ammo through it. Wood is impeccable, as is the bluing. I am fortunate to have found it, it is a once in a life time rifle.

These rifles in this condition sell usually $100-$150 more than a comparable 455 because they have a contoured barrel compared to the straight taper of the 455 and their barrels are threaded into the receiver instead of held in with grub screws, and deeper bluing. (I have two 455s, and they shoot just fine with the grub-screw barrel IMO).

You are right about the trigger needing an upgrade. Great trigger, but the potential to be an amazing trigger with a bit of help.

So hoping to get out today to hit some tin cans. Sun is shining for now but might be a bit early for the neighbour.

This one has a walnut stock. He believed he paid $249 for it back in 1988.

Came with one mag. Is it possible to still get these?

Magazines are still do-able.
I was inquiring for a buddy of mine and was told to buy the mag for the
rifle series.
The mags should interbreed but was told sometimes they don't work as well.

Mags interchange fine; I have heard that the plastic ones not always as well as the steel ones; but mine are all plastic.

BRW, CZ mags work great in Norinco JW; but norinco mags don't work in my 455s.

I see the previous offer and: "If you want to quadruple your money..." :)
At the last Calgary Gun Show, most of the Model 2's were sitting at $625.

I have two and am looking for another two, one stamped '80 and another '84. I bought my son a 452 Lux stamped '16 when he was born in 2016. These are all beautiful and classic shooters - I hope it brings you many years of enjoyment.

Magazine fitment should be consistent with the 452/453/455s. They are available and come in 5 and 10 round variants, in either steel (older) or polymer (newer) construction.

I've seen some new steel magazines that were stupidly expensive ($50~100/ea.), I had really good luck once at a smaller gun show. I suggest bringing your mag to shows so fitment can be compared as I have heard that some of the polymer mags may not fit the older Brno Model 2's properly - all my mags are steel so this may or may not be true.
 
Hey thanks for all the info on mags.

So just in from the back 40. I love this rifle.

Someone once told me a certain rifle won't make you a better shot. I beg to differ.

Had a Marlin 60, 10/22, 597 and sold them all.

Only one I kept was a Henry H001 lever that I put a HIViZ sight on. It is now my second favourite.
 
Get a Yodave trigger spring and shim kit. It will take your rifle experience to the next level.
Great transaction between 2 fine gentlemen and gunnies.
Congratulations on finding a keeper.
