I'm not sure if this has been posted yet, but here it is anyway.

I was trying to find a new Savage, I was looking all across the country but kept coming up empty handed, no one could explain why until I talked to a smaller dealer and they told me Savage has lost their import permit to Canada for the rest of 2007.

The dealer explained that's why WSS keeps telling everyone it could be 6 weeks or 6 months before any of their backorder rifles come in.

Has anyone else heard this or is this dealer on glue?:runaway:

The lakefield factory only does .22's.This has happened before as the BATF believes we up here in the fridgid north are all terrorists and Savage sells us way to many guns.

Savage Canada apparently made a clerical error on it's permit application. AFAIK, this is being rectified ASAP. The US authorities will refuse any permit that is not letter perfect.

The BATF does not issue firearms export permits. That is handled by the Dept of State. The rules and permit expiry dates keep changing so both importers and exporters must keep their heads up to keep on top of things.

The sad part of all this is the terrorist/criminal operations are not affected by these complex rules but the legitimate firearms dealers are, in particular the small mom and pop operations that once served all our small communities. They gave up in frustration years ago under the weight of paper, complex rules and inflexible regulators.:bangHead:

Is it just me or do the 1950's look better every day.

The ATF has nothing to do with export permits. It's the U.S. Dept of Commerce. Mind you, EOS is likely right. Clerks are clerks no matter what department they work in or where.
"...Does the Lakefeild plant..." I believe they do. If it says Lakefield on it, it's made there. They're really Cooey copies.

The U.S. Dept of Commerce issues export permits for many firearms related items but it is the Dept of State who are responsible for the isssue of export permits for firearms. This is how complex and confusing the U.S. systems is. BATF, Dept of Commerce, Dept of State, and others all have various firearms responsibilities. There are specialized areas where their authority is in conflict, their powers unclear and no one seems to care.

This whole mess reminds me of my favorite bumper sticker "Govermnent Policy - Find something that's working and fix it till it doesn't"

Savage Loses Import Permit

Ya gotta love the Excited States of America:runaway:

It's actually the "Excited States of Hysteria"

Here is a good example of how dysfunctional the U.S. firearms control systems is and what American suppliers and Canadian importers have to deal with. A recently issued U.S. Dept of State export certificate is 13 pages of baffle gab and states the following on page one; "DATE OF ISSUE 04/16/2007" and "LICENSE VALID FOR 48 MONTHS FROM ABOVE DATE. Now most people would believe that the licence will be good until 04/16/2011 but they would be wrong. If you read the next 12 pages you will finally find the following; "THIS LICENSE WILL REMAIN VALID UNTIL NOV 07, 2007, ONE DAY AFTER THE EXPIRATION OF THE IMPORT CERTIFICATE". This last sentence seems to say the license will remain valid for one day after it expires - what ever the hell that means. We now have three expiry dates; 04/16/11, 11/06/07 and 11/07/07 - can anyone follow this???:bangHead:.

If these are some of the people who are protecting the U.S.A. from terrorists our American friends should be very afraid.:(
