So a beat up old Ithaca with a bulged muzzle fell in my lap the other day. Its nothing fancy, but the price was right. Maybe 50% finish if we are being generous, a small crack in the butt stock right at the receiver. It has a visible ring on the barrel just south of the choke, so obviously I'm going to give it the hacksaw treatment. I'm thinking: cut to 20", pull butt stock off and fill crack with epoxy or glue to hopefully keep the crack from migrating but not sure if that will work. I'm not going to waste money on a refinish but I wouldn't mind putting a sling on it and maybe clean up the stock a bit. It looks like a perfect candidate for a cheapo Vietnam-era type bush gun (cause we all need more of those).
I've always wanted a 37, and I like cheap and dirty beater guns. This one definitely fills that bill. Scratching an itch from when I read a book about a Seal whose favorite Ithaca met its end when he loaned it to a mate and got it back with a blown up barrel. Can't remember the title at the moment, there are a couple that are very similar. But in keeping with the book (or maybe one of the other memoirs), I may dunk it in diesel and scrub it with a wire brush too!
