Police lay gun charges against trespassing turkey hunters in La Pêche

Half-a-dozen hunters in a pickup truck were intercepted on Highway 105 after a confrontation with landowners in the Wakefield area Saturday evening.

At about 7 a.m., a 12-year-old boy alerted his aunt and uncle that he’d heard several gunshots on their property on MacLaren Road in La Pêche.

There followed a “verbal altercation” with the hunters, who’d not been given permission to hunt on private property, and they fled.

Soon after, police stopped the truck in which two teenagers, two men and two women were riding.

Police say that one of the men and a 15-year-old youth had disembarked from the truck and fired on a turkey on a plateau just off Highway 105. They killed one turkey then abandoned it in the confrontation.
Criminal charges of including possessing a firearm without a permit, negligent use of a firearm and having a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle are expected against the men, aged 49 and 51, along with charges from Quebec wildlife officials.

With the permission of wildlife officials, police took the wild turkey to the local food bank.

Wild turkey hunting is allowed in Quebec — with a permit, after a safety course and within bag limits — from April 26 to May 17 from 30 minutes before sunrise to noon.

“The right to hunt may not under any circumstances limit the right of ownership,” according to Quebec hunting regulations. “A landowner may enjoy his property as he sees fit and grant or refuse access to his property to a hunter who makes such a request.”

Glad to see these drive by idiots get charged. Having hunted West Quebec off and on for 30 years I can say these type of people are a plague and deserve all they get.

more like police lay gun charges on some tools who trespassed, discharged firearms in an unsafe and unlawfull manner , killed a game bird illegally and then drove off when they got caught.... further being tools by driving in a vehicle without unloading their firearms.

clowns like this should get everything they deserve and none of the community's support.

It says there are two sets of charges

1) Police
2) Wildlife

if MNR come in you better have good walking shoes!

Curious to see what that ends up like :)
