Evening All:

So I picked up a new toy (Benelli Super Black Eagle II) and want to break it in prior to heading out on opening weekend in September. I'm planning on taking out to Galt club to run a few boxes through it at some clay targets....

Now with the Benelli as I understand it from reading other posts on this forum and others you need to put 3" magnums through it to do the break in properly...there was also mention that these should be in the 1500 fps range.

All that said what shells would you guys recommend and more importantly what would be allowed at Galt to do this.

Galt like most clay target clubs limits shooters to 3 dram loads of no more than 1-1/4 ounce with shot no larger than #7.5.

Don't try the 3" magnums. It's not like we won't notice.

Ok thanks for the heads up Claybuster...I had no intentions of breaking the rules...not a good way to make a first impression. Forgive my ignorance but do you know of any shell out there that would meet or come close to my needs to get this Benelli broken in and not piss off the other club members?

I was thinking something like the Remington Nitro Gold sporting clay target loads as described below, would these be acceptable?

They'd be an excellent choice. Lots of power, right shot size and if you ever intend to reload keep your hulls.

Great thanks...are shell catchers required at Galt? I've never seen one for a semi-auto, just guys using a rubber band around the breach/ejection port.

I know you can get shell catchers for 1100's don't know about anything else.

Too bad your down east you could come break your gun in shooting whatever you want at our clays range. We shoot to 1100 yards with the rifles so nothing out of your shotgun is going to cause problems. I have shot trap there with my 10 gauges.
