Pinfire, I inspected more closely under the magnifier lamp. Its a deep vertical line above the big honking chip however is not a separate fracture after all - is a gouge it seems. I'm sure Chris could do a near invisible repair and refinish after de-oiling the head, but that's not the point.
 
John, I just saw the picture. That problem/issue should have been fully disclosed. There really is no excuse for not doing so.

I certainly hope he looks after you and makes it right. He should definitely give you the option of a full refund including shipping or cover the cost of the repair. Keep us posted.

An update to this saga. Seller sent me a shipping label last week so it went back on their dime. Today received EMT for full refund. I'm glad to have that resolved now. When we finally connected, the message was, "of course we will refund you, that's not a problem".

I am glad it worked out for you. Mistakes happen and it is good to see he looked after you.
